i think his most impressive performances could've been in defeat. watching him face taylor, who was prime, faster, bigger, more range, and stronger, and almost knocking him out in the first fight and completely neutralizing all of taylor's advantages was a beautiful sight. watching him take a fighter with an arsenal like calzaghe and limit him to slapping like a lil ***** all day and making him miss even on the inside was also impressive. but of course his most impressive one would be either johnson or tito. complete domination of prime fighters. glen was 30-0. so what if he only fought journeymen. calzaghe was 40-0 before he fought a real name.
hopkins resume is smoke and mirrors, swallowed by a gullable american public who got brainwashed by hbo and ring magazine :nut theres a tried and trusted test to assess hopkins best victories - why don't you try it :think list hopkins supposed 6 best victories in any order trinidad tarver ODLH pavlik wright johnson then to take the test, you list the weight at which hopkins fought each fighter at. you then go through each fighter and write down what those fighters best 2victories were at the weight they fought hopkins at. you then get the real picture of hopkins career and how he just beat on people naturally much lighter than him who did virtually nothing of note at the weight hopkins fought them at :deal hopkins best win was against tarver, because he moved up 2 weights to do it. however the fact remains that tarver was a B level fighter at best, who got lucky that he fought jones at the right time. in all honesty, tarver is garbage and an over-rated american hype-job :yep the toughest tests hopkins ever had at a fair weight were jones, taylor twice, and calzaghe. hopkins got his ass kicked on all 4 occasions - these are the fights that hopkins should be judged on and not the fights where he feasted on lighter fighters who were garbage at the weight hopkins fought them at :deal
When he dismantled and stopped mt favourite ever fighter - Tito Trinidad. Tito was on an incredible roll and seemed to be unstoppable - Hopkins rendered his left-hook almost useless and boxed a perfect fight. If it wasn't for this fighr, there's a good chance Hopkins would have toiled in the same obscurity he languished in up until that night.
Tito, easily. That was prime Hopkins at his very best, dominating and taking the zero of a great fighter, and getting the stoppage. A clear, clear winner IMO.
Among the guy in your avatar's best wins were: Hearns Duran Mugabi How many of them did Marvelous fight at their natural/best weights? None??? :smoke
i totally agree with you, that is probably the 1st decent post you've ever made on esb. i would give credit for the hearns win though because tommy won a middleweight title and then won 2 world titles above the weight he fought hagler at, winning a super-mid title and a light heavyweight title.
