Hopkins Best Performance ?

Trinidad and Pavlik are def. the ones i'll choose, no one could argue that... It was one his few fights were it was enjoyable to see...

 

Guessing that someone is pretending to be hurt and is not really hurt is just idle guesswork, real fans don't do that.

I don't like guesswork. It also gives other fans idea, we already seen it in the Pac drugs debate.

 

Like Popkins said, it's guesswork. In situations like that you don't really know what's happening in the ring for certain you can only ponder. Also, did you see some punches Abraham hit people with? Do you really think he couldn't knock out someone who was defenseless?

 

He was pretending and did a **** poor job of it. If you can't fight your way to a victory like a man hang up the gloves.

 

Cynical/dubious tactics are part and parcel of the sport. They always have been. Do you think the greats of the past didn't know how to turn a trick? Your moral high ground is good for you, but it doesn't have any bearing on this sport. Many fighters try to bend the rules and steal any advantage they can, and they always will.

 

Has any active fighter fought more undefeated, undrawn fighters than Hopkins? I believe he has fought 7 guys in his career with unblemished records (lipsey, jones, johnson,trinidad, taylor, calzaghe, pavlik). Not indicative of anything but an interesting stat.

 

I'd say Trinidad was probably still his best performance, although I can certainly see why some would make the case for Johnson or Pavlik.

 

some fair points, though theres always gonna be a disagreement between us over the quality of tarver and johnson. to me, those 2 got massively hyped beyond their level because they got hold of roy jones at the right time.

i'd have more respect for your post if you could be honest enough to just admit that 'hopkins ducked calzaghe in 2002'. to make an initial demand of $3m to fight calzaghe in america was hopkins calling calzaghe's bluff in the first place because he didn't think he would get that deal and would price calzaghe out of the fight. when the calzaghe camp came back and agreed to hopkins demands, it was ridiculous for hopkins to suddenley double his demands to $6m at the last minute of a deal being agreed. that is a man deliberatly pricing himself out of a fight and blatantly ducking another boxer. if calzaghe had done that to another fighter i would be honest enough to admit it.

tell me, who had hopkins earnt $3m against at that stage of his career? who had he earnt $6m against at that stage of his career? hopkins was prepared to turn down the 2nd biggest pay day of his career. these excessive demands were to fight a eurobum that was barely known in america and yet he was prepared to turn down $3m to fight him on his own soil. instead hopkins prefered to pick up $750'000 in his next fight 8 months later against a bum like hakkar.

Tarver for me. Hopkins was underrated and Trinidad was slightly overrated when they fought and Hopkins was the naturally bigger guy. Trinidad should have lost to Oscar, H2H Hopkins had faced better opposition than Trinidad.

But to move up against a guy who walks around at 220 and to bully him around the ring like he did against Tarver, at that age with two lesser performances against Taylor just behind him...to me his best victory.
