He can also say he is the only man to win an ok number of rounds against prime Jones. Floyd could have stopped Oscar had he really tried to.
Not an upper end ATG like he is made out to be. He is over-hyped due to the fame of Leonard and Hearns and Duran. He is way below the lot of them.
Hopkins was pretty near to his best then. Hopkins best performances. Win over Johnson. Loss to Jones.

So any fighter who fights someone coming up in weight now automatically loses prestige? Are fighters not allowed to change weight classes anymore? I get so sick of hearing "Well this guys fight dosent matter because the other guy used to be a different weight class." Fighters move up in weight all the time, especially to fight the best fighters in and around thier weight class. Staying in one weightclass your entire career is hardly something to brag about.
What is funny is, when Hopkins was dominating and going for the defense record at MW, some of these SAME PEOPLE knocked him for not moving up in weight. Yet because some great fighters did it and moved up, they knock him for beating them. He cannot win.
So true. These noobie posters give some fighters SOO MUCH CREDIT if/when they move up in weight. But beat guys who moved up, and they are apparently **** wins. Typical of this board...:-(
It just goes to show how far people have to go to try and discredit Hopkins. They look at his resume and cant say "Well obviously he didnt fight quality fighters." . So it goes to "Well those fighters werent good because they used to fight in a smaller weight class.". If you want to you can blow almost anything out of proportion, especially if you have another point to prove.
You don't have to knock ONE of these guys to be a fan of the other. They both have good resumes. You can split hairs as to which is better. Bernard never moved up before , maybe because he was chasing a middlewt record. Maybe the same for Joe. In their primes, it would have been interesting to see them face at 168. Rightnow, not so much. Neither one is at prime but Joe is much nearer prime than Bernard, and would not get a great deal of credit if he were to beat him at 43. Besides, Joe shoulddn't wait till June. Feb or March should see him fighting for a piece of the 175 lb title. Then, win or lose, he should fight the winner of Taylor/Pavlik at 168. Bernard, if he wants to wait till June, should take the winner .of the Roy/Tito bout.
One of his his best performances. (The other was his defeat (by stoppage) of Johnson). Neither Tito nor Oscar rank in his top five.
I think you're confusing knowing nothing about the sport with holding opinions quite different from yours. I don't always agree with CHJ (he once allowed that Calzaghe would beat a prime Marciano) but to say he knows nothing about the sport is a little off base.
