His record outside the United States. 1 win 2 draws. Joe Calzaghes on the other hand 4 wins out of 4.
Yes I did note this myself. Hopkins struggles to win big fights away. Like alot of fighters Hopkins gets a bit overawed when he is the away fighter and makes critical mistakes that cause him to suffer KDs. Consider when Hopkins fought away in a world title fight to Mercado he was put down twice and only managed a draw, and when Hopkins fought away in a world title fight to Pascal he was put down twice and only managed a draw. You see the similarities? Hopkins does have a style weakness to fast 2 handed fighters his own size as history has shown, losing to Jones, Taylor twice, Calzaghe and only getting a draw with Pascal, all fast 2 handed fighters. Hopkins would be wise to avoid Zsolt Erdei
What a joke. Did you even watch Hopkins school Pascal on the 'champions' home turf? Hardly a style weakness and hardly overawed.
Joe Clazaghe is 2-0 outside of Europe, one of this wins is a very close decision over Bernard Hopkins and the other is against Roy Jones.......Roy Jones......Roy Jones...come on dude, in 2008 he beat Roy Jones. He has a close decision win that could have gone to either fighter and then he has a win over a fighter that was years removed from his prime. Their's really nothing impressive about that. Bernard Hopkins faced far tougher competition in his career than Joe Clazaghe and if you matched B-Hop against Joe's resume the only fighter that might have given Hop problems is an undefeated Mikkel Kessler not saying he'd lose but its a tough fight. Other than that Hopkins would have went undefeated too. Their's nothing special about going undefeated with Jeff Lacy and Peter Manfredo Jr. but of course in Europe if you beat an American you the best thing since slice bread, but in the States if you beat a Euro fighter you've wasted your time.

Consider when Hopkins fought away in a world title fight to Mercado he was put down twice and only managed a draw, and when Hopkins fought away in a world title fight to Pascal he was put down twice and only managed a draw. You see the similarities? Hopkins I think was a bit overawed at first, that isnt a critism, alot of fighters fighting away are a bit overawed and make early mistakes before they calm down and start doing what they do best. There is often a thought that they have to start fast and hard as they are the away fighter and mistakes get made often costing them KDs. Think how many away fighters have been knocked down when fighting away before finding themselves and then getting into their own game. Froch was overawed at first against Taylor away, suffered a KD but came back to win, same as Calzaghe against Hopkins and Hopkins against Mercado and Pascal. When Hopkins composed himself and got back to what he does well, he started coming back and winning rounds. As for the style weakness, it does show, sure he may have looked good at times in any of these fights but couldnt win any of them. Hopkins does have a style weakness to fast 2 handed fighters his own size as history has shown, losing to Jones, Taylor twice, Calzaghe and only getting a draw with Pascal, all fast 2 handed fighters.
