"Adamek and [promoter] Kathy Duva should be disappointed. They had a chance to fight a 44-year-old legend that he doesn't have on his résumé for a half-a-million dollars. I fought William Joppy [in 2003] and I was a champion with 16 title defenses,"

"I made $300,000. Let's keep it real -- outside of the Polish race, who knows Adamek? Ask the nearest Mexican about Adamek and they will ask, 'who?' He beats Hopkins, he's marketable. I beat Adamek, so what? At the end of the day, some promoters negotiate for themselves first and think about the fighters second. That's what happened here."

"There is a great chance you won't see me fight again,...That's not bad. You got to see one of the greatest fights of my career [against Pavlik]. Every football player who has won rings will say it's great to win one on the way out. The clock isn't on my side. It's hard to start this old cart engine up and shine like I shined against Kelly Pavlik. I'm no fool. I'm financially secure and I have a nice family. That's enough."

Hopkins makes a good point here. He doesn't have a whole lot to gain by fighting Adamek. His legacy is already set and he's financially secure. Adamek can really boost his marketability if he were able to beat Hopkins. With that being said, I can understand Adamek and Main Events passing on the offer.

man i woulda loved to see the fight...but you are right...i can see both sides here. if hopkins is really considering hangin'em up, i would love to see him start training w/ nazim. i think the two of them could really bring some fighters along great together.

Hopkins is trying to pretend that we don't know that it is he who called out Adamek. If he can't meet his demands then he must STFU and retire.

Hopkins is the bigger name and has the upper hand in terms of negotiating. This doesn't change just because he called out Adamek. Regardless, he already stated that he would retire if the fight doesn't get made.

I can understand what he's saying about what he got for fighting Joppy and what Adamek should expect...but I disagree he has little to gain. To become cruiserweight champion would be something special.

Exactly like I thought, Hopkins says it - Adamek beats Hopkins and he's into the big league, Hopkins beats Adamek and what does he gain? It must have been good cash but since they are not willing to, f*** em! Nonetheless, I don't believe Hopkins will resist to make it sweet win number 50 with a great, great challenge that will get the juices flowing. Hopkins needs to be understood as the underdog to bring the best out of him so bring on Chad, Joe C, Jermain or Carl Froch if he happens to beat Taylor!

It would be a damn good accomplishment. However, I'm not sure how much it would boost his legacy. CW is not a historically well thought of division. Holyfield will always be remembered for his HW accomplishments. What he did at Cruiser is often not given enough credit.

Adamek doesnt need to fight Hopkins, if he wants to become a good name. He already is a good name. He will prove it in his next fight. It would be a great fight with demanding opponent (if not Hopkins - RJJ, Byrd, Johnson)

Is the farewell fight againist James Toney a step closer? Could it be a double farewell?

HBO could make a mint if they made a 24/7 about these guys and put it on PPV...

I was curious what his recent purses were. You'd like to think that they can't be *that* far apart on money.

I do think Hops' referencing the Joppy fight is a poor comparison, though. At the time, his defense list was very impressive but because of his style and status as a boxing politics outsider, he wasn't a tv/fan friendly fighter, had a low promotional profile and that hurt his purses. Adamek is a big punching/leaky defense fan-friendly fighter. He doesn't have the list of defenses, but he has a higher profile than Hop did vs. Joppy.

As stated, I can see why both camps pass but I'd like to think the money is there to make this fight. It would be a good one and would generate good interest. If Hops wants to call it quits, though, the timing is perfect and that's totally his call.

If Adamek makes less than what was offered for his next fight - then it won't look that good. Even if he had lost to Hopkins - it wouldn't look that bad because it's Hopkins. But if he had won - Oh the possibilities for him.

Too bad - I actually wanted to see this fight. With the fact that it would have either been in Newark, AC, or MSG - I would have shown up to either of these places to see this one.

But what would it actually do if Adamek increases his marketability? He still would have no other opponents. There are no name opponents at cruiserweight, and he's too small for heavyweight. Because of that, even if he won, he still wouldn't be making significantly more per fight than he's already making now. Marco Huck seems to have a following in Germany, but cruiserweight just isn't a money division, and just because Adamek beat Hopkins, it doesn't mean the networks are going to pay more for his fights when he has to fight guys that even a lot of serious fans haven't heard of.

There aren't too many fighters who can sell out full-sized arenas on a regular basis, and Adamek is one of them. Even if they split it so that Adamek got 100% of the live gate and Hopkins got 100% of the TV money, that would be fair, but Adamek brings more than $500k to the table in any fight.

Hmm its a bit of a lose lose for Adamek tho.

Fighting a smaller , older guy who is going to spoil and foul, sneak and poke and generally make for a horrible experience for 50G ! If he loses he is in big touble ( at least Pav could say he was going up in weight , and even then his rep has taken a bit of a kicking ) and if he wins , well he was expected to.

I have respect for 'nard but if I was Adamek unless the money was really good I'd let it go too !
