The nearly 50-year-old Hopkins would beat Kovalev. I know that's a hard pill to swallow for you Kovalev fans. ld

 

Chad Dawson owned his wrinkly ass twice already, Hopkins' only chance at keeping his belt is if he cherry picks, like he did with Cloud.

 

I agree with Hopkins here Kovalev is tailor made for him.. He's a whole different level of fighter than Cleverly. He would frustrate and smother Kovalev and probably win rather easily.

C'Mon now. It was very clear that neither HBO or SHO wanted the Hopkins fight. The writing on the wall was that it might very well not get made, and if it did, it'd be on SHO/GBP terms. That's why Duva (Main Events) took the fight that was already on the table. No-one 'ducked' anyone. B'Hop himself said that SHO wasn't keen even tho he was willing. B'Hop's a living legend as a boxer, but he's also a promoter, and knows what he has to say.

Kovalevs future interests were best served by getting himself on the HBO gravy train, since SHO are basically irrelevant at the higher weight classes. B'Hops is an ATG, and despite being a Kovalev fan, I still wouldn't bet against Bernard, but on this occasion he's just doing a bit of self-promotion. If B'Hop really wants the fight, well, he (as a GBP partner) is the one with the power to make it.

 

Hopkins wanted to fight Stevenson and have Cleverly fight Kovalev from the start.
