Oi, he's a black American southpaw, he's obviously incredible! ;-) Don't forget, I gave Pascal the blueprint for that fight. Fact :deal
No, but it means any fighter can claim injury and get a fight stopped at any point. Head clash, double vision etc etc All you ever have is Hopkins word. That should not be enough to retain a title in a fight no matter how short, that he was losing. He then goes on to decline a rematch.
Oh FFS what a ridiculous statement in a fight that had one round completed? If Dawson had been putting a beating on Hopkins then ok, but he wasnt he was actually getting out-landed. Hopkins generally takes a few rounds to get going he works his opponents out, takes away their weapons and then breaks them down. You just need to look at him in his biggest fights Trinidad, Oscar, Tarver he tries things out, gets his range, then finds the right space. Using five minutes of a fight to suggest he opted out is just daft. And against Chad Dawson of all people, who couldnt even handle Pascal until the Haitian tired.
Actually i think you are being daft accepting his excuses. Ask yourself this, why do rugby players not get this 'alleged' injury every game ? Or why do MMA fighters who get slammed way way harder not get it ? Does Hopkins have any history ? After he fell from the ring in a previous bout he again could not continue and yet doctors found no injury. Joe Calzaghe who he claimed had no power and slapped yet left him doubled over from glancing blows to his foul proof ( its in the name ) protector. If your reasoning of his performances in his previous bouts held any merit then you should be very rich from your gambling successes. Now as you isolated my second to last sentence and called it a ridiculous statement, how about you address the rest of it ? Or does it mean you think its correct.
And if you read it correctly, it disproved one thing Hopkins claimed, he claimed he could not continue, he could. David Hayes little toe did not stop him completing the course against Wlad, this is a bit worse than that. A bit.
I was a fan of his (still am). I like his style and his fundamentals are sound. However i was always objective in my analysis of him. I ripped him to shreds on his flaws and mental weakness. I was never of the view that Hopkins ducked him or that Chad was a nightmare for him either. If there is anyone i went overboard on, it was the Peterson brothers. I was hyping them like crazy. We can never know how that fight would've gone. But i think it would've followed a pattern of Dawson increasingly missing, his mental flaws coming to the fore and getting ambushed with right hand leads, because his head goes straight back when he's coming forward.
He had beaten Adamek and Glen Johnson. He was the clear number 2 in the division behind Hopkins. Whether he was p4p is neither here not there. How can you say the number 2 is in a different sphere from the number 1 when he's fighting insignificant guys like RJJ and Ornelas. It makes zero sense. The fact is, you like Hopkins and you dislike Dawson. You support Hopkins not giving Dawson a rematch simply because it would **** of Dawson. Most boxing fans want to see a rematch to see who is the best lightheavy in the world but not you. You'd rather not see it so as to see Dawson punished by not getting the opportunity. Froch did the exact same thing to Dirrell, if Dirrell play acted there, I'm fairly certain you, and most people here would give him the world of ****. And what's so ludicrous about thinking he exaggerated it? Have you watched his career?
I thought that Hopkins looked slightly clueless in the first round, but as has been pointed out he does take some getting going. I don't think that theres any way he faked the injury, there was no motivation to do so.
