Jermain turned out to be a very average Middleweight Champ. Hes been Sparked many times now and those Defeats Hurt Hopkins Legacy. They have to.

to a degree but it was more a stylistic match up problem for hopkins than anything. btw: i'm of the opinion that taylor closely, but clearly, won both fights

Hop's legacy isn't close to being affected. Nobody really thinks he lost those fights, and his resume is about as good as it gets for a boxing career... Hop would beat AA and Froch's asses just like he beat PAv...

    "styles make fights"

Vernon Forrest(RIP) beat Mosley twice, but overall who had the better career?

Hopkins wasn't in his prime until after the Taylor fights.

He improved immeasurably after those fights as we saw against Tarver, Pavlik and the fact he managed to last 12 rounds as he was dominated by Joe Calzaghe's volume of punches.

even now you think? he always relied on technique and not athleticism but it looks like his reflexes and speed are too low to compete at the top

Taylor was one helluva MW at the time he fought Hopkins and BHOP still made him look bad in the first fight. Nothing wrong with losing to young lions but just recently(a month or two) I scored both fights and had them for Hops but understand JT getting the nod in the second fight.

Taylor took did what few fighters do and took advantage of B-Hops low punch output and threw quick flurries wha caught the judges eyes. He obviously was very good but I believe it was his gameplan which let him win. He was a great athlete, but not a natural boxer.

Style thing. Hopkins will not open up if he is at risk of getting hit with something serious. He will maul and play defense then throw a fit if he loses a fight. If he cant figure you out completely he will not take a chance. He does not show the guts to do what he has to do to win a fight. Some criticize Floyd but I think if Floyd is pushed in a situation where he has to fight or open up or lose he will go balls to the wall. But having said that Hopkins is old and to be that old and remain in the game takes self preservation first and foremost.

    wait, are you joking around?

Hopkins reached his prime from the second mercado fight to the joppy fight. he was SLIGHTLY past prime in the taylor fight. the tarver and pavlik fights were tremendous accomplishments in part because he WAS past prime. if this is an attempt to trump up calzaghe's win over hopkins by claiming hopkins was at his best when he lost, it's a sad and transparent one

anybody with decent stamina and workrate is a match for bernard now even pavlick could cause him problems and hop looked a million dollers first time around. Next fight against a live fighter bernard might just get the biggest beating of his career. Taylor just didnt live up to the hype but he was a decent fight with some good wins so i dont think it hurts Bhop at all

I'd have to say Hopkins prime was during his middleweight reign and ended not too long before he beat DLH. We mistake saying a fighter's prime is when they look great but Hops just had a great career overall past his prime. Most fighters can't say that.

no ****ing way. you are out of your god damn mind. go watch a prime hopkins. go watch him against glenn johnson in their first fight. He was a ****ing monster back then and just steamrolled everyone. his loss to jones was not as bad as people make it, and there is no shame whatsoever in losing to a roy jones jr back in that time. holy **** man catch up with your history a little bit before posting.
