Have to disagree with you, the reason Taylor has gone down hill is because of Hopkins, the man ruins people if he fights them twice, it is a proven fact. Mercado went from being a guy 1 or 2 fights out from another title shot to being a bum in less than 2 fights.

 

I agree but the second fight could've been a draw. Neither really did enough to prove they deserved to win similar to Dirrell/Froch.

 

there were arguments for taylor winning, hopkins winning or a draw in both fights.

i scored it against hopkins when he just sat and postured but some might score it for generalship or defensive accuity

 

Several mitigating factors:

1. Hopkins was fading badly at 160 at that stage of his career.

2. Both were close fights (which I felt Hopkins won).

3. JT was a very good MW back then.

4. Styles make fights.

However, it doesn't read well that he lost to the two best Middleweights he ever fought.

 

And Echols didn't capture any title that counts after Hops beat him (Just saw the Hopkins/Echols fights this week they're great). It's true that Hopkins ruins people after rematches but the RJJ 2 fight is an exception because RJJ was already ruined years before it. It's also a fact that Hopkins does better in rematches.

 

Yeah and Taylor did better in the rematch. It is often forgotten that in the first fight Hopkins hurt Taylor in the 10th round bad but just couldn't finish him.
