There's a legitimate argument to be made that Hopkins resume was vastly improved as a result of losing to Taylor.

He might well have retired as planned if he'd won, and the Taylor victory would be seen as fairly unremarkable. He would never have beaten Wright, Tarver or Pavlik each of which can be argued to be amongst his best five wins.

 

Agreed. A loss is often a good thing.
