Not sure if this has been posted already but I just read it on ESPN.

A few days ago, Hopkins was on Calvin Murphy's radio show in Houston, where he was to promote Golden Boy's Juan Diaz-Paulie Malignaggi HBO card. One of Jones' buddies heard Hopkins on the show and had Jones call in. It turned into something of an on-air negotiation that went like this:
Hopkins: Money has been the issue for the past 10 years with us.
Jones: How much will you give me?
Hopkins: I will make it a 60-40 split.
Jones: How about 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser?
Hopkins: Now you want to make a contest out of it. I don't need Roy Jones. It could wind up in the judges hands and you never know what will happen.
    Jones: You pick the judges.
Hopkins: If Roy Jones will take 40, we can get it done before the year is out. But if
    not …
Jones: He already has an 'L' on his record from me, and he is trying to make me take 40 so he can prove that I am the lesser man. But if we make it 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser, I will take my chances with that.
Hopkins: Do you think I would make more money fighting Roy Jones than I would a young stud like Adamek or Dawson?
Jones: Bernard doesn't want to fight me. Why would he want to fight me? He's having fun now at this point in his career. He doesn't want to take that gamble.
Hopkins: Is Roy willing to go on record to take 40 percent, win, lose or draw?
At that point the show producer suggested a winner-take-all match.
Jones: That's even better for me.
The producer interjected again, asking if Hopkins was still on the line.
Jones: No. When you said winner-take-all, you ran him off the phone. He's been doing that to me for five years now. He disappeared. That's what happens to me every time.
Another chapter in the rematch that never was and probably never will be.

The reality is that Jones needs Hopkins WAY more than Hopkins needs Jones.

No, it's just tit-for-tat ... Roy wanted Hopkins to take 40 when he was the draw, now Hopkins wants Roy to take the 40 now that there is more stock in B-Hops name. Pride will stop this fight from happening because neither of them will ever accept 40%

I think Roys offer was a good one personally.

Yeah, you missed the interview. I guess common PERCEPTION is that Hopkins is now ducking Jones. Yeah ok. Nothing like getting your facts wrong.

If Hopkins is ducking Jones, then Jones ducked Hopkins back in 2002 because they both offered the same thing, 60/40, and the lesser guys at the time (meaning less leverage at the time), both passed.

I can't really disagree with this based on what they've done recently, but who is the one with no dance partner right now? Adamek jumped ship for Golota.

Yeah but Hopkins could retire now, as the P4P #3 and on the back of the Pavlik performance. Say he beats Jones as well, so what? Jones is shot and Bhop will get ZERO credit. Whereas if Jones beats Hopkins....

Hopkins will probablly fight Adamek next year, or perhaps the winner of Johnson/Dawson. Either way, he has options.

have you ever seen a contract signed 60 to the winner and 40 to the losser like Roy is suggesting? that **** doesnt happen. I have to side with Hopkins here, he deserves the 60% regardless of who wins

Yeah, same. But Bhop is in a difficult postion. Even if he fights Roy and wins, he won't gain anything from it in terms of legacy, so he at least wants the lions share of the purse. Plus Bernard has lost a few very close SD's in recent time, so this 'winner takes all' idea probably doesn't appeal to him, given that the judges don't always favour him.

interesting question , i wonder what hopkins thinks. what do the forum think ? dawson is regarded a boring fighter. jones is regarded a draw.
about adamek i don't know enough in this regard , just that he's less known , polish , so , in poland it will sell , but how will it in the U.S ?
i know that roy looks for easier fights in this stage even more than bernard.

I'm not sure about purses, but there is no way Hopkins - Dawson gets the number of PPV buys that Hopkins - Jones II does. I'm laughing even typing this.

Exactly. Jones can't even get on TV nowadays, so he has to do these smalltime PPVs or travel abroad. Hopkins had all his recent fights and will have the upcoming ones on HBO or HBO PPV. He's also the LHW champ, so he deserves the bigger share.

But the problem is: neither fighter makes it easier, they both want to get paid and both think they deserve the bigger slice, however this fight doesn't involve multi-millions anymore, so both have to take a step backwards in demands. The worst deal Roy ever did was the 50/50 vs. Calzaghe, which was a pretty nice gift from Joe, Jones should accept that Hopkins is in the better position at HBO. And Hopkins should accept this fight doesn't promise 8 figures, it promises legacy.

This fight is clearly available and can be made, they just have to put their egos away and do it like professionals do.

I find it quite amusing, the way they interact. Its very childish, tit-for-tat nonsense, both very proud men, who seem very suspicious of each others motives.
