Agreed with everything except for the part in red. I beg to differ. I think if they fought, the PPV numbers would be surprisingly impressive. I'm certain it easily surpasses 500K. Probably higher. Hopkins alone doesn't yield PPV numbers. And RJ isn't a stud in the likes of DLH. But there is something about the two getting together and FINALLY fighting that entices not only boxing fans but i think a lot of general fans of the sport. There was a poll on this board asking if you would order the fight and i think like 90% said yes.
^^ I agree, I think fans like the personal anamosity between RJJ and BHop, they will tune in to see how it plays out. On their own, neither fighter is big box office anymore, but together that could really work for them.
Yup most *******s dont give a **** if it doesnt involve pac. Infact they dont give a **** about boxing all they know is pac.
Tomas Adamek would be a better accomplishment than Roy Jones Jr. (at the state of Roy's deminished ability) I think Tomas Adamek would be the better choice given that Hopkins has to put on weight and fight at a higher wieght class.
I hope not I still and the Ghost to Flatten Williams ..I personally dont want to see Hopkins school Paul ..I have noooo interest in that fight what so ever !!
Several times actually. And it's been discussed in depth. Do you really believe Hopkins is "ducking" Jones?
Jones: How about 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser? Hopkins: Now you want to make a contest out of it. :huh con⋅test  [n. kon-test; v. kuhn-test] noun 1. a race, conflict, or other competition between rivals, as for a prize. 2. struggle for victory or superiority. 3. strife in argument; dispute; controversy: Their marriage was marred by perpetual contest. verb (used with object) 4. to struggle or fight for, as in battle. 5. to argue against; dispute: to contest a controversial question; to contest a will. 6. to call in question: They contested his right to speak. 7. to contend for in rivalry. verb (used without object) 8. to dispute; contend; compete. Im no english teacher but isnt a boxing match a contest?
Well, it would surprise me, not that I can't imagine them doing 500k, but I think at HBO they clearly don't see that happening, therefore they are not investing serious money in it. This fight should've happened a looooooooooong time ago, since then it's downhill for Jones and Hopkins never became a PPV attraction. With the relatively young TV audience and the Latino market playing a very strong role, Hopkins and Jones are just two old men with the PacMans, JMMs, Cottos being the most exciting names out there regarding when it comes to PPV. Mayweather is a star of his own, but he's the only one. Roy generates about 25.000 PPVs off his name, Hopkins did only 10 times that number vs. young exciting unbeaten American Pavlik, no way Roy-Hop would generate 350k IMO. Not in 2009.
