Another well considered reply. This is a bit like buses: Nothing for ages, then they all come at once!! Do you really think Tito had filled out to 160 or just bulked up(like Winky did to 170) to make the fight? I would say the key point is whether a fighter is no longer able to make the weight or not. eg DLH was recently talking about fighting Hatton at Welter, so he clearly didn't fight at Middle because that was his lightest available division. Can Hopkins still make 160? I'd doubt it personally
I think calling Tito a blown-up Middleweight is really an attempt to down-grade Hopkins resume. Tito was ALWAYS a weight-drained welterweight. IMO, his best weight was probably 154. Moving up 6 pounds north doesn't make him blown-up though, especially taking into consideration his frame and his performance against Joppy (who at the time was actually a really good fighter; not elite, but still good). Yes, Hopkins was STILL the bigger and stronger man. But that's not the main reason, at ALL, as to why Hops beat Trinidad (who due to the hate for RJJ in his time, was considered P4P no. 1 by a lot going into the fight). It has NO comparison to Winky at 170, though. Winky was blown-up, for sure.
Yes, Winky was just plain fat!! With regards to Trinidad his record at middleweight or above isn't great. Losses against Hopkins,Jones and Wright, with the only wins against Cherifi,Joppy and Mayorga(who himself was a blown up Welter/LightMiddle)
Great post, I agree 100%. At 36 joe is past his prime, he stepped up in weight for the first time, and still he dominated Hopkins.
Ooooooo, you got me. I suppose Pernell drew with Chavez; and Holyfield drew with Lewis in their first fight? Taking official scores as gospel is naive. But to each his own, mate. :good
Again, :huh :huh :huh :huh :huh What's with this bull ****? These are the same guys who laugh at guys who score the fight for Hopkins. atsch Both have a little reviewing to do.
True, but most fans agreed the two instances you mentioned were blatant robberies. Hopkins tried to beat Taylor by only fighting 30 seconds of each round and whilst you could make an argument for Hopkins nicking the decision, most thought that he lost fair and square
Are you SERIOUSLY trying to convince us that Joe fighting Bernard in the USA is an advantage to Joe?:huh
