Fact is Hopkins doesnt have that many fans, its hard to engage one in a real debate, most are just Joe Calzaghe haters spouting off.

    ps Avatar bets are gay.:good

Seriously tho, I will be dropping the knowledge on why I am picking Bernard for this fight in a few days....I did more research for this fight then I ever have for any in the past (Id say about 10-1)...so it will be in depth. Be sure to keep a look out....maybe I can pull ya from that fence!!!

    :good

My problem is when I pick with my heart? I lose more often than not. My heart is telling me Hop's will force his fight.

My head says Cal has the stylistic abilities to move enough to win a decision.

    Look forward to you're anaylsis:good

Yes, but one of the problems also is that you know damn well that most, if not all of these cocky Hopkins fans will suddenly be crying "Hopkins is an old man, this victory means nothing for Joe" if Calzaghe spanks him on Saturday. They as well can't have it both ways. Either Bernard is a competent, legitimate threat or he's old and washed up.

Or, are they going to take the cowards way out where they will say after the fight "Gosh, I didn't realize the toll that age has taken on poor Bernard. I never would have picked him if I had known."

Personally, I don't think a Calzaghe victory will mean all that much, but I'm saying that NOW. I'm not pretending to back Hopkins, and build him up as some incredible threat to Joe, and then trash him after the fight is over.

You couldnt be more wrong. The people who dislike Bernard said Hopkins fans would use the age card after he lost to Taylor (Hell, theyve been saying it since before the Tito fight...only problem is, he kept proving them wrong, so!!!)...yet after he did...it was THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DISLIKE BERNARD USING IT, not his fans!!!

Hopkins fans absolutely love the guy BECAUSE of his age. His longevity as a top fighter is one of the reasons we consider him so great....wouldnt make no damn sense if we tried pulling that card as a negative.

Hope that clears some things up for ya!!!

Hopkins is an old man, he SHOULD lose this fight.

Does that take credit away from Joe if he beats him? Probably, but really who gives a ****. It took too long to take place, but now that it's here, I'll take it.

Doesn't change the fact Nard is a damn grandpa, and don't say "but Joe is old too"... Nard has 7 ****ing years on him.

    Hello Sues.:p

I've just come down from the fence myself, and it took me until the week of the fight. I know I'll get all the same **** from Calzaghe die hards (and I have just as much respect for Super Joe as I do Bernard), but I had a premonition that BHop is gonna T/KO Calz in the 9th round. I can just see it, Joe with a stunned look on his face backing into a corner and BHop is gonna close the show.:yep

Great, then I look forward to Saturday night after the fight is over. This board should be full of humbled Hopkins fans who are heralding Joe's victory, and giving him all the credit in the world.
I guess I shouldn't expect any Hopkin's fans to be discrediting a Calzaghe victory because of Bernard's age?
That's a relief. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

You will get people that dislike Joe saying this. Much like the people who dislike Bernard but knock his great wins...yet are not fans of his vanquished opponents. Make sure you dont confuse the two.

And I have said since day one...if Joe pulls this out...he deserves ALL the credit in the world. Bernard is by far the most skilled, most experience and best fighter he has ever been in the ring with. Im just not so sure his winning is such a foregone conclusion.

(BTW, just to clear things up...I am a GIGANTIC fan of Calzaghe's...one of my all time favorites...this choice of Bernard isnt because of personal allegiance, but from careful analysis of the fighters...)

Well good for you. I'm quite sure you will be in the huge minority though.
While the Joe haters will totally discredit his victory, you'll get some who will say things like "Good win for Joe, but c'mon people, Hopkins is 43 years old. How much does such a victory really mean."
I'd be much more impressed if they'd say that now, instead of waiting till after the fight when this will be become their "save face" fall back position.

And to clear things up, I'm neither a Joe or Bernard hater. I have immense respect for Bernard. I just think he really is asking for too much this time. I thought he looked bad vs Winky and only pulled out a victory as Wright looked even worse.

But, I'll be the first to eat my words if I'm wrong. It won't be the first time!
