Hopkins-Froch on the cards Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer says that Bernard Hopkins is interested in relieving Carl Froch of his WBC super-middleweight title. Hopkins, who recovered from losing his light-heavyweight Ring crown to the now-retired Joe Calzaghe just over a year ago by beating Kelly Pavlik on points, is keen on Frochs crown. And Schaefer says that London could be the venue for a bout that The Cobra is also eager to get involved in. "Hopkins is interested in fighting Froch, Schaefer was quoted as saying by The Sun. "We've spoken to Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy and they are interested. They only want big fights now and Hopkins is a big fight. "Hopkins told me he would do it at super-middleweight so I'm going to try to make it. "We could possibly do it at the O2 Arena in London - it would be big." Froch, 31, downed Jermain Taylor last month and with no chance of a fight against Calzaghe, a clash with Hopkins could be the next logical move. He said on the possibility: "Would I consider fighting a guy like that? Yeah, I would look at that. "If he's talking about it, we would definitely look at it if it could be done. "He's very experienced and he's very big and strong - but it's something I would be keen to do." This content is protected This content is protected
Froch wins by Devastating KO in the 12th :bbb Ok maybe not.... but Good on Froch if he gets the fight he deserves it
I don't see it as such a bad move. Hopkins might appear to have too much for him, but he might not. He's not exactly getting youthful now, is he? Plus, if he gets beat by Bernard Hopkins - well no shame in being beat by Bernard Hopkins and he could still get a decent fight after that. If he wins, his stock goes up. Simple
I'm going to make an early, tenuous prediction for this one IF it's held at 168: Froch wins a snoozer of a decision against a suddenly very old looking Hopkins. I think at his age, even dropping the few lbs necessary to make 168 would be a bad move for Hopkins. He fills out 175 pretty much perfectly at this stage of his life.
