Isn't the phrase "in the cards"?

Or have I been using it wrong all these years.

I've never heard 'in the cards'. But maybe it's a regional thing rather than you being wrong.

I've heard quite a few promoters refer to things happening later in the year as being "in the cards".

Perhaps it is a regional thing or perhaps a sporting thing as I've heard wrestling promoters use it.

It's a mix of two sayings:

In the cards means : destiny or fate, bound to happen

On the table : what the original poster meant to say.

No, I took it directly from a news artical (link below). That is what it says.

I've also always said, "on the cards", though - i've never heard of "in the cards". "In the wires" yes - but not "in the cards". In the cards sounds like some mystical sort of thing....

Urban dictionary (which is the ONLY site for true and literal definitions on sayings and expressions) has an entry for "In the cards" leaving me to believe that it is a legit saying.

Hey I don't know dude, but I'm pretty sure "on the cards" is the saying over here in the UK.

Hopkins going to the UK? Well I have my doubts about that. But if it happens it'll be a good fight to watch.

    Sorry to sidetrack the convo.
That's exactly where the phrase comes from -- fortune telling. Whatever was "in the cards" was your fate -- like it or not. I have never heard of "On the cards" before, but I can tell you "In the cards" is a very common phrase.

Could be a regional thing. For instance I've never heard anyone use "In The Wires" before.

F! this BS I want the Kessler fight.
And Y the F! did Hopkins turn down Kessler?

    This is Pavlik all over!
Though Froch wont be sluggish from going up in wait and will at least throw some.
    BAH!

BHop is bad man. He's really doing this because he wants to inflict more embarassment on Jermain Taylor by beating the 2 guys that KO'ed him. He has a great legacy and doesn't really need this. Those Taylor fights and those "losses" probably still eat him and he wants to rub it in more.

  15. On the cards is the saying..... maybe it's diffrent over in the U.S
