I have Calzaghe over a prime Hopkins, much less now. The reality is that Hopkins is going to run out of stamina and get stopped, or the corner will throw in the towel.

I have a wide UD on the cards. In reality 120-108. Hopkins is a tough old bugger. I think he has a good enough chin to still be firing back, so as the corner does not stop it.

He lacks the stamina, Winky Wright had him pretty tired, he'll be worn out very fast because nothing he can do will stop Calzaghe's aggression and workrate and he's going to eat a lot of shots despite what people think here.

So then round 9 rolls around and he's dead tired and taking punishment. This is a reality.

For anyone out there taking Hopkins to beat Calzaghe:

How does Hopkins win this fight? Be specific, cause I don't see how he can possibly win it. I noticed that everyone picking BHop just says "I think he will win....because I said so". Lets hear the analysis for the fight :D

Would not be that surprised if I saw that. But my pick is still Calzaghe UD I think Hopkins has enough left to not get knocked out.

I'm not even saying Hopkins hits the floor, I'm leaning towards stopped on his feet or corner retirement.

Yeah i would never consider Hopkins to actually get knocked out cold especially considering how brittle Joe's hands are and how good Hopkins chin is. I dont think his corner will throw in the towel but I can see the ref stopping it. Still Calzaghe shut out UD.

There are two ways Hopkins can win this fight:
    • Calzaghe gets disqualified after reacting to Hopkins' consistant fouling
    • Calzaghe gets his build up disrupted by injuries or forces of nature beyond his control contributing to an under par performance on the night. Calzaghe breaks a hand early on and gets hit by single right hands consistantly resulting in many close rounds. This could then be a hometown decision.
These are the only circumstances I can see for a Hopkins win.

Its a tough one, I can see Cal outworking Hops through sheer punch #'s. I can also see Hops making it a horrible snoozer and winning on points kinda like he did with Winky.

Cal is obviously bigger than Winky and more active and Im rooting for him but I have a sneaking suspicion Hops will impose his will and dictate the pace of the fight. Leaning toward Hops, unfortunately. How bout you?

  13. Hopkins could open a cut and get a TKO via heabutts.

Plus never underestimate the potential for bought Referee's / judges or even drugging of a fighter.

It would be impossible for Hopkins to outbox though.

i think Calzaghe by UD is a reasonable bet, but it's not the dead cert that some euros seem to believe. Even at 43, Hopkins has the style to trouble Calzaghe. He's probably one of the hardest guys ever to hit cleanly, he can fight dirty, hold etc. and Calzaghe has shown in the past that he can get riled and messy when he is given that sort of treatment. Bika made it a hard day at the office for JC by fighting this way, and he won't get away with a ragged performance against B-Hop. Still, if he keeps his composure, I see him outworking B-Hop.
