It's not really Kovalev's fault his competition has been lackluster. Stevenson blatantly ducked him, and he was supposed to fight Hopkins, but got Cleverly instead.

Ward refused to fight Stevenson, even at 168, when asked about Kovalev, Ward said that Kovalev was too big for him, yet Ward was a light heavyweight as an amateur.............Kovalev was ready to fight Stevenson, but Stevenson ran away, so later Hopkins took the fight with Kovalev for big money, Kovalev is getting very little money.........

Hopkins has done a lot but the importance of some of his wins is overrated.
    At 175
he won aganst Tarver, Pascal, Cloud and Shumenov but
he lost to Calzaghe and twice to Dawson (yes, twice).
So basically he fails against the elite fighters and is edges good fighters.

Ivo, Dawson was never elite imo. Just too fast and athletic for Hopkins, who needs stationary targets.

Was Dawson elite when he lost Pascal?or just against Hopkins?

Basically you are underrating Hopkins run at 175.

    Pascal is elite 175pounder

Hopkins is GOOD for boxing, we are all lucky he's done what he's done and still here fighting and making match ups like this.

He's totally overrated. Kelly Pavlik came in sick and a binge drinking alcoholic. Otherwise he would have sledgehammered Bhop to death. Tonight, Bhop gots whats coming to him.

tbf he is the only guy at near 50 to own world titles and try to fully unify.

    that's not overrated.

the fact that he can do what none of the guys you mentioned can do in his 40s kinda outweighs that.

Hopkins Middleweight division was noticeably tougher than todays. That is why Golovkin's KO streak is laughable to me. He hasn't beat a guy yet who would have been a top ten guy when Hopkins was 35 years old.

My friend summed it up, "At 50 years old it is hard to root against him. Then again it's also hard to root for him."
