i'll give hopkins some props, he knows how to talk **** to keep himself in the loop.. he shouldve been retired a long time ago but he keeps making millions even though he doesnt deserves it.. he's over the hill 45yrs old still being consider one of the top p4p by espn when he shouldve been long gone.. he'll probably talk himself into a fight with bute and make a few more millions and then give everybody a boring ass fight

    :hat

as a Canadian I consider anyone who holds citizenship Canadian. Its not something that is forced upon our residents. Also, to get it they have to go through a process of naturalization while by definition confers them the Canadian nationality.

In my eyes, you can be both Romanian and Canadian. I see no problem with that.

Bring that fight on but for the IBF SMW Championship and let Hopkins forget about David Haye. This is one of the two fights we want to see Bernard in.

Hopkins said he couldn't go lower than 170 lbs, though, Dorfmeister.

It would be great if Hopkins could get a shot at the SMW title because he's never had a title at SMW, but frankly, at this stage of his career, it's less about titles and more about whom you beat and how you beat them. If he beat Bute at, say, 170 lbs or even 175 lbs, (because Bute should not perform worse at 175 lbs than at 168 lbs) it would not mean less to me than if he beat him at 168 lbs. It's all about the performance of each man in the ring on the night.

    But others may feel differently...

This is a good attitude to have, I think.

Understand me, Dece Bal, it doesn't mean a whole lot to me that Hopkins does fight for the official IBF SMW title but why wouldn't he if 170 is almost the same as 168 pounds? Take one pound less, put one pound more, it all depends on Bute and the IBF Comission. Anyway, doesn't mean a great deal to me and most probably it doesn't mean nothing to Hopkins. Business is the most important issue but also the fact that Nard is confident in performing and outclassing Bute. It's a good fight, it's a worthy PPV event and it would make a whole lot of difference in where does Hopkins stand now in these weight classes... I would like to see BHop face the winner of the Showtime tourney as the IBF Champ tho... That or fighting for a good portion of the LHW Championship against either Dawson or Pascal.

I agree that ideally, Hopkins should fight Bute at 168 lbs if he can make the weight, but he has made a point of mentioning he can go no lower than 170lbs. He must have done it for a reason. I don't think it was because he thought Bute would avoid him if he had to put his belt at stake.

Technical question: could any commission sanction an IBF SMW title fight if one or both of the fighters were over the limit, with the belt on the line for both fighters? I thought not...

Many events in the past were fought on agreements by both parts and the commission. Comes to mind 1989 SRL vs D Lalonde for the MW Championship but fought well above the MW limit. I don't think Hopkins would take a pound less according to evidence provided in the Calzaghe affair... Yeah, it should be all for money and public attraction but fought in the States.

If it can be done, technically, I see no reason why Bute would not agree to a 170 lbs limit, with the title at stake for both. Bute is killing himself to make the limit as it is himself.

What do you think, Dorfmeister? What chance (%) would you give Hopkins against Bute?

As much as I wish B-Hop would retire and have wanted him to since the Tarver fight...he still has enough left to squeek out a decision against Bute and very likely do what he said "Turn him into a Canadian Pavlik".

The fight should not happen A Hop's win won' help his legacy any and a loss won't really hurt it, more than likely just justify that he needs to retire.

It also does not benifit Bute! Should Hop's win a loss to a 45 y/o past prime Hop's would hurt his current standing as much as it has to Pavlik who fell in the eyes of many after his loss. A win will be labled a minor legacy enhancement if at all due to Hop's age.

For Hop's it makes sense for the $$$ and another win over a somewhat highly regarded guy, for Bute I don't believe the risk is worth the minor reward!!!

I think Bute and his team will see it as putting a great American name on his record. If they can fight him. I believe they will.
