A piece of paper does change your nationality, or at least it alters it. Vazquez is a Mexican-American. Does that mean he has to go by that? No, but by definition he's an American. He's also still Mexican

Apprantly Bute doesn't have Canadian Citizenship or he would be Canadian. Everyone refers to Lennox Lewis as a Brit, yet he competed for Team Canada in the olympics. As far as B-Hop, he never mentioned anything about race. Both Bute and Pavlik, would be coming up in weight. They both would be undefeated, highly touted, champions when fighting Hopkins. They also both would be significant favorites. I think it says more about your state of mind when the only similarities you can find between Pavlik and Bute are their skin color.:verysad

Maybe you never heard of it, but when these boxers get their US/etc citizenship, it's usually a dual citizenship which means they don't lose their 'old', and certainly don't use their nationality just because they decided or were forced to go to another country for a living or for whatever reason. Google "dual citizenship". Some actually can't go back once they got their US citizenship, but you can drive down to Miami and ask Yuriorkis Gamboa whether he considers himself American, just don't be surprised when he'll give you a laugh. When I say I can't see any other reason for Hopkins' comment is because I'm thinking with Hopkins head not mine. In the past 3 years he kept making these "white" comments and it's getting a little boring.

For ****'s sake; acquiring citzenship for economic reasons, or to aid a lifestyle choice only makes you a citizen of the adopted country. It does not alter your national identity imo.
    Christopher Hitchens is not American.
    Terry Gilliam is not British.
    Anna Kournikova is not American.
I could name countless other examples.
An individual should have the final say on what they deem their own nationality.
Middleweight Matthew Macklin was born in England. He has British citizenship. However he has stated on several occasions that he regards himself as Irish.
Sinan Samil Sam was born in Germany. But chooses to represent Turkey.
I except that in certain cases individual's of mixed heritage regard themselves as both - Joe Calzaghe stated allegiance to Wales & Italy.
But as aforementioned acquiring citizenship for financial/lifestyle purposes doesn't alter an individual's national identity.
It is the individual's right to choose. Bute has stated that he is Romanian.
    Not Romanian-Canadian. Romanian.

Now when the hell did I ever say this was the case? I specifically pointed out the opposite.

Your entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.

But anyway, take the Bute fight, I just don't wanna see a ring tragedy. Haye hit Ruiz behind the head VERY HARD and Bernard got into Hospital because of that. I'm with Richard Scaefer on this one. Don't fight Haye!

This fight would look worse than the Calzaghe fight with Hopkins especially with his new Ram style with kung fu grip ..I pray Bute's handlers keep him away from BORE NARD !

Hopkins should call out Valuev he's stiff enough for him to let his hands go and look good against !

The thing is many nations do not actually insist that those who've newly acquired citizenship relinquish ties with their country of birth.
So whatever allegiance they may pledge to their new homeland orally is ineffective.
And the crux of my post was to declare that it is the individual's right to assert their own nationality.
It is not for those who've never met them to impose their opinions unto another.
And for the record Honeyghan was raised in England as a child.
This is why he is referred to as a Brit.
Bute travelled to Canada a man who had already represented his country several times as an amateur.
Even the above facts are irrelevant.
Because if Bute were to claim he was Canadian then that's exactly what he would be.

Bute is as Romanian as they come. He is considered Romanian by his Canadian fans in Montreal too.

But without Canada and the amazing Canadian fans who took him to their hearts, Bute would not be Bute. He would be some guy, in Romania.

Bute is a resident of Quebec/Canada and is in the process of gaining Canadian citizenship.

Once he gains Canadian citizenship, he will have dual Romanian-Canadian citizenship. He will be rightly considered Romanian Canadian. He will still be Romanian first and foremost, and he will consider himself Romanian first and foremost, but he will be Romanian Canadian, and will consider himself as such.

Bute is choosing to become a Canadian citizen not because he needs the citizenship to become popular/accepted/allowed to stay and work in Canada, because he has all that already anyway.

I think he chooses to become a Canadian citizen out of respect and affection for his best and truest fans - those who have helped him become who he is, - the good people of Montreal & Quebec, Canada.

We had about 3 pages of yet another BigBone irrelevant issue. First his attack against Iole because apparently he was being biased. Then some **** about semantics if you want to call it that.

Honestly Bone...get the sand out your vag. **** is unbecoming.

I find it funny no one noted that he speaks French, which means that he SHOULD be considered Canadian. He not only has the citizenship, but the damn guy chose to speak the language in interviews which to me seems like he's become more adept to being Canadian than Romanian. He chooses to fight in Canada. Mother ****er is Canadian more than anything.

Margarito is Mexican American, yet identifies himself as Mexican and speaks Spanish.
Lennox Lewis is Jamaican, yet calls himself a Brit and speaks English with an English accent.

Bute and Pavlik dont fight the same, if bhop thinks they do, he is going to get his ass kicked back into retirement.... And i doubt bute takes this fight outside of montreal, were the judges wont let bhop get away with his illegal tactics
