anybody offended by hopkins statement is foolish. in america, unfortunately a lot of blacks come from lower economic classes compared to whites. they traditionally have been disadvantaged in a lot of ways in what had been for a long time a white dominated society (but obviously the opportunities have been improving). but the one place they have more than held their own is atheletically. right or wrong, many take pride in that department as it has been for many the only place they level the playing field and in fact excell compared to many white contemporaries. it's thus especially bad to be "inferior" athletically to a "white boy" even tho obviously there are also great white atheletes. hence the comments. it is probably a lot different in other countries.

 

The race card has been used in the past to sell tickets. Do you guys remember Cooney vs. Holmes?
