Just so you know, 10 years ago was 2002. So, are you saying that Hopkins already exited his prime by 2002? You can't say that Hopkins had not entered his prime yet!
Yeah, I've said it long before he first fought Dawson...he's an absolute shell of himself at this point. Still a top light heavyweight, but the magic has run out at the very top of the sport.
The end of an era. It's clear that Hopkins can still compete at the weight and probably beat good fighters, but if he's not capable of outsmarting the best, then I don't think he himself or his fans want to see him participate any longer.
I think Chad was just a bad style match up for him cause he's technically sound. Hopkins should have a farewell fight vs Cleverly, he'd school the **** out Cleverly right now
NOBODY looks good against Hopkins. That's not praise for Hopkins. Hopkins runs, then charges with his head then holds. When he pointed to his head as the difference, he literally meant his head. Cannot blame Dawson for this ugly fight. Did we expect anything different? Hopkins makes any fight stink.
Yup exceot when Hopkins is in there against plodders .This is why he looked amazing against the likes of Tito and Pavlik ..
the hopkins that fought last night would have beaten every other top 175 pounder, so although he's 46 years old, he's still top two at 175 because he's simply one of the best in a pretty good division. that being said, I would have no quarrels with him retiring.
I am glad he wants Bute, I love to see him fight and Chad had plenty of problems there, do not have any doubts whatsoever.
It seems very forgotten that Hopkins is 47 years old. I thought Hopkins won 4/5 rounds against Dawson.
He was always an old man. It's remarkable that at 47 he's able to perform the way he does. That all alone is insane. Dawson deserves the win, he came in prepared and clearly didn't allow anything to take him off his gameplan. He fought and won like a professional. Bernard is an ATG anyway, this loss doesn't affect his legacy.
I personally think he needs to retire, i'ma Hopkins fan like you but he's not the same. He's still good enough to compete with the best but he'd be taking too much of a risk if he continues.
You know, I know, he knows that risk is the biggest motivator for him, a challenge to overcome. If he comes short, f*** it but he needs to be fed with the Calzaghes and the Dawsons and the Pascals and the Pavliks and the Butes of this world or he won't live long doing nothing anyway. Look at what happened to Gatti. Training keeps him from drinking and eating **** and not getting old.
