Bernard Hopkins was old, and a worn out shell of his former self, before he fought Calzaghe. Dropping an ugly split decision to Calzaghe did not change that. However, if Kelly is going to fight Abraham next January, or if Joe remembers who he loaned his balls to, and Kelly fights him early next year, Kelly needs a fight between now and then. Pavlik has 34 fights, but only 127 total rounds of boxing with an average of 3.75 rounds per fight. He does not have the experience it takes to fight an elite opponent immediately after an 8 month lay off. He NEEDS an interim fight, and Hopkins is a better opponent than Rubio, Mora, Duddy, Mayorga, Williams, or Wright. That my fellow boxing fans is the long and the short of it.
Hopkins will be learning curve for him. Regardless of Hopkins' age it will be a tough fight and Hopkins will give him some trouble. We'll also get to see if Pavlik's able to adapt to the stylistic problems Hopkins will pose.
You got that right. Several of us had a long conversation the other day about a potential Pavlik/Winky fight. With that fight it was all about the learning curve. Considering that BHop is ranked #2 at 175 by Ring magazine, and even though he is old and worn out, he's still BHop, this might be even better.
Even though Hopkins is pretty much shot, its still a good fight. Its not a PPV worthy fight but its a good fight nonetheless. Apart from Calzaghe, Abraham, Kessler, and MAYBE Dawson (but not in my opinion), this is the best fight Pavlik could take. Winky doesn't measure up. Calzaghe, Abraham, and Dawson are already booked. That leaves Kessler and Hopkins. I would have preferred Kessler, but Hopkins is the second best option, which is not so bad.
It will be worth 50 dollars to watch that ugly ass Drivin' Miss Daisy, Cream of Wheat man mutherfukker lose again!
I think nard would give kelly a hell of a night! Im not sure how well he would take being made look foolish for 12 rounds. Id say the nard would take him in a close split decision
Realistically, that fight wasn't even worthy of a split decision. Calzaghe won at least 8 rounds. Hopkins fought negative, held, ect. Pavlik will win. Too young, too much pressure and too much strength. But I'll be very surprised if he knocks Hopkins out.
This fight should not be on ppv :nono Hopkins fights tend to suck ass. Old Man Hops is still a dangerous fight for Pavlik but I'd expect him to beat the old man. I don't like KP is fighting out of the middleweight division again. I wouldn't be surprised if his fight with Abraham never happens. And I'd take that fight over any fight that could be made at supermiddle or light heavy for KP. And again, this fight should in no way shape or form be on ppv.
