And keep this in the back of your minds, this is coming from the biggest Calzaghe fan on the forum. I will give Calzaghe no credit unless he utterly dominates and stops Bernard. It annoys me so much that a fighter like Bernard, who used to be of high P4P quality can use his name to hold a division hostage of the supposed 'man of the division' title just like Tarver did and can get by for two years fighting one defence against a cash out fight with Winky. The ONLY reason he's taking Calzaghe is because of the money and the fact that he has nothing to lose. You people who think he's going to win, or even put up a fight are just delusional about the situation and are in for a rude awakening. Even prime, he loses to Calzaghe, handily in an 8-4 fashion after Calzaghe neutralises his lead right hand and uses in and out movement and his standard workrate to disrupt Bernard's style. But we are dealing with a near shot version at 43 and I just cannot believe some of you fans watching this sport with rosey coloured glasses. Do you guys really think that beating Winky 8 to 4 at 170 is impressive? He was even getting tired. Here's my prediction - He's not going to last 8 rounds with Calzaghe, either a corner stoppage or quitting on his stool. On top of it, his recent behaviour just showcases how absolutely unnerved he is about the fight and how he knows deep inside that he can't win. That's why nothing could have gotten him in the ring with Calzaghe back in the early 2000's, when he was still an elite fighter. Calzaghe TKO 8. The only credit he's going to get from me is that he's the only guy to stop him, but it certainly won't be his career defining win, top 5 at best.
You don't need to point out that you are the biggest Calzaghe fan in the Forum, you are also outrageous by stating that the fact that Bernard is unnerved shows that he knows deep inside that he can't win. Your prediction has its value but I think you have no right to start a thread just based on hatred cause that's all it is about, isn't it? - you hate the fact that Bernard is still fighting and having publicity? Why would you be bothered that Hopkins is the Ring Mag LHWT Champion ( which doesn't mean holding a division hostage) if your fighter chose to fight him and no one else??? And the man who in his prime beat Hopkins 8 to 4 was Jones... Calzaghe was never and will never be Jones in his prime, not even if he TKOs Hopkins in 8 now. And you may have boxing knowledge but you surely must get mixed up or something... You don't neutralise a right hand countershot cause that is not a leading shot - you can neutralise a left jab with a right jab but not a right hand counter-punch - what is Calzaghe gonna do, tie Bernard's hand to his waist?... The only way he can keep Hopkins from landing with that shot is to antecipate with double, triple jabs and tie him up... Was Calzaghe out of balance against Salem in the fourth? You want to win the fight, you have to take the shot and fire back with more shots of your own... Let's see if Calzaghe has the fiber to take shots from Hopkins and fight back in Vegas!
JC would never in a million years stop Hopkins. What kind of power does he have to stop Hopkins? better yet.. who has ever knocked down or stopped Hopkins? Taylor... no, roy jones jr... no, tarver...no, wright....no, and all of those fighters have much more punching power than JC. If JC happens to pull off the win it will be by points and thats it.
No you are not I've been following him from day 1 and anyway we are all equal on here when it comes to realizing true boxing greatness :good Calzaghe TKO 10 for me and I can't wait, Flying over to see this Live and witness Hopkins first stoppage will be great. :happy
I'll be really surprised if Joe KO BHops, I mean BHops style is to throw a 1-2 combination and clinch. He is 43, yes, but it is his style that doesn't get him KO by clinching so much, oh and he will clinch with Joe a lot because he knows Joe is faster. The more I think about this fight the more I see it lasting 12 rounds, if either guy wins by KO I"ll be damned.
No I'm not, he knows damn well that he's going to be beaten and beaten badly. Why do you think he's been seeking to mostly cherry pick on the senior circuit? You've missed the entire point and I'm not surprised either. No, I don't hate Hopkins, but some of his fans have been ridiculous as of late and as a whole, he's become overrated. I don't hate the fact that he's still fighting and having publicity, I hate the fact when former P4P elite's still running off of a name can take the spotlight away from young elite's, when the older former elite's are half shot and in reality aren't even top fighters anymore. Joe vs. Chad Dawson is the fight, yet we have to sit through this nonsense bout just because of the name recognition of Hopkins and what's pathetic is that most are going to consider it a career win. Hopkins cannot even defeat any top 5 LHW's at the moment, meaning the year 2008. Yet he's regarded as the man and can choose to either cash out(which he's doing against an amazing fighter), or cherry pick and hold the division hostage(which Tarver did, avoiding all real challenges). Does this make any sense? See above, waste of time. Of course he isn't Jones, but he poses nasty stylistic issue's to Bernard and fights totally different than Jones. Jones was a guy who ran and exploded, Calzaghe is a guy who boxes(with high workrate, many jabs, Hopkins doesn't like a proficient jabber) and then swarms at openings with blistering combinations. His quick feet and in and out movement are the worst for Bernard. 8-4 any day of the week prime for prime. You can neutralise getting countered by changing your tactics. For one, he'd cease squaring up and would keep moving and utilise his jab to the fullest. The only chance that Hopkins has is off of his counter punching skill and timing, because of the fact that Calzaghe squares up so often. ^^ Hmm, great version of Calzaghe to cite there. He's really consistent, never hot and cold, you know?:yep He's always been one to take 1 to land a few, Hopkins doesn't even have the power to bother him. You're ridiculous if you think this is going to be competitive.:yep
Im not counting out a TKO win for Calzaghe. I still think a UD is on the cards, but have said a late TKO isnt impossible. Hopkins is a great fighter...for his age and it is the best fight for joe Calzaghe to take right now, no doubt about it, Hopkins Is the Rings 175 champ, is in most peoples p4p list, is a big name and one of the best middleweights of all time. However I cant help but think the people that are picking Hopkins over Calzaghe are doing so because they are not fans of Joe more than that they are fans of Bernard. Calzaghe UD.
Let me guess, you never saw Hopkins fight in his prime. Let me guess, you still don't know why they called him the "Executioner". Let me guess, you didn't watch the Hopkins/Winky fight. Because if you did, you would've realize that Hopkins was as fresh as a daisy when the fight stopped.
Although i do hope that the fans that truly beleive Hopkins can beat Calzaghe will be converted when they are proven wrong.
I'll test my prediction skills. I think someone will post the next post and clarify exactly what I meant.
i think you misunderstanding his post. more 'Refined' meaning a better match, more meaningful and less of a joke. but 'simlar' because it is low risk for Calzaghe and a fight against a guy with a name and a profile in the States. I do think hop deserves more credit than he is getting in this thread, but in my eyes there is only one winner!
I agree with this thread, though I'm not positive it will be a TKO, at least not quite that soon. I won't be surprised by a stoppage though. Calzaghe is also no longer at his peak skill-wise, but still much closer than Bernard.
I think prime for prime, Hopkins would have gotten very close to beating Calzaghe...could have gone either way, I think...and I won't argue against anyone who says Hopkins would have beaten Calzaghe in a close, contested fight. But yeah, now he is vastly overrated.
