Oh wait... because EVERY CALZAGHE FAN ON THIS FORUM HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BASH CALZAGHE.

I can't believe anyone seriously thinks this will be a landslide victory for ANYONE. If anyone really believes that Calzaghe is going to knock Hopkins out, or win WIDE decision - then they are COMPLETELY BRAIN DEAD AND KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BOXING.

Bernard's entire style is based around throwing someone off their game plane. On top of that, in reference to him getting stopped what makes you think this could POSSIBLY happen?

Hopkins has a great chin - not that it even matters. Why? He keeps it tucked so well, and his defense is so good that it never gets it. And on top of that, CALZAGHE ISN'T EVEN A BIG PUNCHER! His last stoppage was a gift from an IDIOT referee who thinks someone throwing a FLURRY OF FOREHAND SLAPS is going to do some damage to someone.

 

OH and btw I predict a Calzaghe decision win, but I seem to be the only one who has the sense to realize that it will be a close fight, and there is no WAY that Hopkins gets stopped.

 

You are the only one? I have been tryin to communicate with all the guys who come up with such unbelievable nonsense such as Calzaghe moving to Las Vegas and humiliating a fighter who has competed with America's best - 160-175 lbs top class fighters for years... It's quite obvious that the humiliation exercise ( by way of "predicting" a shutout/kayo for Calzaghe or underrating Hops to the point of ridicule) has to do with Hopkins' previous attempt to dishonour Calzaghe's name in the first place... Then, they ask you to explain how would Bernard achieve what is labelled as the "impossible" for them... And you go back and forth so that they come to realise that they went a little bit overboard - it's an entertaining mental exercise.

 

You're completely right, though I actually find it very far from entertaining.

The whole song and dance just reminds me a lot of the pre-Mayweather-Hatton nonsense actually, though the tune is a bit different. Then it was always this very stoic sort of 'Well you know I think Hatton CAN do it!" Fans take such a delight in taking the position of the underdog, nand o course throughout thee whole busiess the underdog somehow kept getting built further and further up, while Floyd kept being torn furtheer and further down! And of course there was also just NO WAY Floyd could knock out Hatton. Ah, good times!

 

I just saw the punch stats for Hopkins-Winky and Bernie threw about 650 punches - 9 of them were jabs.

9 jabs.... that's unbelievably low for any fighter. The point here is that Calzaghe just doesn't get hit with jabs so these things play right into Hopkins' hands. The more I think about this, the more I can see why Hopkins has taken this fight. He sees question marks about Joe that he can ask using his unique style.

However, I get the impression that both men can frustrate the other: Calzaghe with his superior movement and hand speed, Hops with his defensive counter punching game. There will surely come a point where one of them gets on top and imposes their style on the fight. If that's Calzaghe then it will be a long night for Bernie. If Hopkins is getting the better of Joe, expect a change of tactic to the reckless, brawling JC!

 

Oh, forgot to mention to sambob that Pride of Wales is no politician or speculator in the Board. There's nothing outrageous about what he said, nothing out of this world or out of sanity standard... I concur with everything written down by Pride of Wales obviously!

My mistake, Hopkins threw 91 jabs and landed 9. I think we should expect similar jab stats vs Calzaghe. As I previously stated, Joe just doesn't get hit by jabs and that's not going to change against Hopkins. If Kessler et al couldn't get their jab into the fight, Hopkins won't be able to. Hopkins is all over the counter right hand though. I wonder how many of the 143 power punches were of that variety?
