He still clinches like a maniac regardless of whether it is his strategy or not, fact is, he clinches a lot. So does Ruiz and he's won fights like that as has Hatton. It's a double standard, clearly. It's not even debatable. But believe what you want.
why are we comparing hopkins and hatton this is supposed to be about roy and hopkins but can you please elaborate on ur comment becouse again i dont get it
Yup, he doesn't feign injury for sure. He only lowblows, elbows, shoves, headbutts, holds at will, throw endless rabbit punches and punch behind the head yet still went life and death with Tszyu. Loved the British commentators during Hatton/Mayweather, "Oh, the referee is not allowing Hatton to hold and hit behind the head, he's screwing up his gameplan!".
You want to compare what Hopkins does with Hatton?, show me ONE fight where Hopkins applied the same endless cheating tactics Hatton applied fighting Tszyu. At least when Hopkins is caught he's warned and sometimes gets penalized with points taken away. Hatton was applying endless illegal tactics and Tszyu was getting warned for it.
Not many. I don't even care if he clinches though. It doesn't bother me. It's just the "explanations" that amuse me when people are trying to say it's ok for him but not others.
dude the guy is old and yes he clinches.....alot, but he dose so many other things extreamly well that in my eyes they over shadow the things that seem "boring" to other people.
Well, if Hopkins clinched as often as you think, wouldn't he have done it constantly in this fight as well? Look, I see what you re saying. But just because two fighters might clinch does NOT make them the same. There are differences, which have been explained. Hatton wasn't the clincher Ruiz was. Wlad has some fights where he clinched MANY times, some where he didn't once. Hopkins simpliy isn't the clincher Hatton OR Ruiz were, especiually Ruiz who did it constantly.
so.........back to the point hopkins isint scared of roy its about money and proving whos the bigger man
Money and ego. I honestly believe Hopkins doesn't want to allow Jones back in the spotlight using him to get on a Major TV or PPV card.
I never implied they were the same. Yeah Ruiz is on another level when it comes to hugging. But I've seen some really ugly Hopkins fights. He has an arsenal of dirty moves. And when I hear, "oh it's smart, oh he's a master", that might all be true but it doesn't change anything, he still doing it. Whatever though, this is not going anywhere.
It was priceless, wasn't it :rofl I think Jim Watt even called the referee (Cortez was it?) a 'disgrace' in that fight, what ****ing nonsense. In the Tszyu fight the commentators didn't say ****, they even laughed at Hatton afterwards when he pulled out his tired "it's not a tickling contest" line when quizzed about his constant fouling. Tszyu to his eternal credit never complained, he deserves to be held in the highest regard for that, in my opinion. As for Jones and Hopkins, I think they're both delusional but I don't understand Hopkins not wanting to accept the 60% to the winner option, if he's that confident then he should take it, and retire the man and avenge his loss.
roy and b hop are like eachothers yin and yang roy a ton of flash b hop a ton of substance roy primed earley hopkins primed late roy was unconventional hopkins about as well schooled as can be i can see why they wouldent like one an other
