Hopkins has showed more Respect to Roy then Roy to him in recent times. congrats to Hopkins for not kicking a man when hes down.
Typical Hopkins...What the **** is up with him anyway... He forgot that he Picked Roy?? And now he tells us that he was surprised he was shot. How could he not have known that??
I think Roy didn't learn the basics because he was so fast before. And B-Hop is right about what he says to a degree. But I saw RJJ way before the fight - during the buildup on HBO 24/7.... and he didn't look that good there either..... having said all that..... a past it Roy, was still good enough to knockdown Calzaghe....and it could be argued that by round 6 the (unofficial) scorecards were even ...the guy on setanta TV had the fight even at round 6....as he was scoring on landing / accurate power punches over pitter patters. So the cut had a major impact on the fight... and you could clearly see, the fight change from that point....RJJ clearly panicked a bit...not suprising as he had never in his career fought with a cut. Also remeber RJJ at the end of round 1 looked good, and was even showboating... trying to say it was easy. The reason he chased Calzaghe was that he thought he was an easy target without much risk of being damaged. So overall, I don't think Roy was completely finished. I think he came in the fight, the best he has since Ruiz. I accept it's nowhere near how good he was 7-8 years ago... but the RJJ who fought Calzaghe....could easily mix it with many others in the LHW division, including Johnson and Tarver.
Well, an RJJ rematch is out of the question, Calzaghe wont grant his racist ass a rematch....lets see...Dawson?
Hopkins is lucky he didn't fight the Calzaghe who showed up against Jones. Calz. was adjusted to the weight for Jones, looked physically bigger and more toned, was better conditioned, was faster, had better movement, and was sitting down on his punches. Jones was not that bad, Calzaghe just had an amazing night. That being said, I'd like to see Jones pack it in.
Hopkins is pretty much spot on with those statements, especially those about never learning the basics. Thats why Hopkins is such a master even well into his 40's, because he never relied on natural attributes and instead became a technical master.
