    1. Why did Kovalev look so huge compared to hopkins? I know Kovalev supposedly weighed 188 on fight night compared to Hopkins 182, but me Kovalev looked a good 10-15 lbs bigger than hopkins. Even 188 is pretty big for a guy fighting at 175. Hopkins is a small LH having spent most of his career at MW. But Kovalev is pretty much a cruiserweight. This might account for why hopkins looked overpowered in there.

    2. Why did Kovalev have to harden his gloves by punching the wall/doing knuckle push-ups while wearing the gloves/ punching his gloves together?..I mean, the guy is heavier and bigger than hopkins, not to mention he's supposed to be a puncher...and he's 18 years younger. Seems like dude had no confidence in all his other advantages...like maidana he needed to doctor the gloves to assure himself he would win.

    3. Did hopkins fall victim to the age hype? To me, hops just didn't do enough...ok, we expected him to pace himself. in the first few rounds his low output made sense....but as we got into the mid and late rounds i expected him to do more...it was almost like even HE believed he might be to old to keep up. or maybe it was just that kovalev was so much bigger and stronger.

Question: Why can you never give credit to a white fighter?

He said it himself he (kovalev) was the better man, hopkins tried to use typical predictable style, but he was up against an elite fighter. Not decent fringe world fighters like pascal cloud or euro level fighters like shumenov or the part timer or Murat that kid cleverly dominated. Kovalev is a world level fighter, and packs a bit of a wallop too.

If particular muscles are developed it will not only cause an increase in bodyweight but could make one look heavier than he actually is. For some reason you could watch a guy who looks huge on television then be surprised when you meet him in person and he's wearing street clothes, he looks so thin then.

And no the scales weren't tampered with if that's what you're getting at.

The only answer worth mentioning regarding that fight, is the fact that Hopkins had no answer to neutralize Kovalev's offense. Naziim himself mentioned in between rounds I think that, "You have to trust your defensive instincts". Hopkins, quite uncharacteristically I might add, DIDN'T trust his defensive instincts the way he normally does. That was because Kovalev was good on his feet - maybe not as good as Hopkins on his feet, but good enough that Hopkins was actively FOCUSED on defense. That's why no offense was seen from him, because Kovalev had awesome feet and Hopkins didn't trust his defense.

Kovalev is the goods. I wish they had let Hopkins talk a little bit more in the post fight, because he himself immediately credited Kovalev's mechanics and intelligence.

I thought Hopkins would beat Kovalev, and Kovalev proved a lot to me. He's going to be a tough nut to crack for anyone south of cruiser.

As for Kovalev packing his gloves that's fairly common. I think TYson actually punched a hole through a wall before doing that. Also, we aren't 100% sure Hopkins wasn't doing the same thing, just nobody mentioned it because he's not exactly a KO artist.

It was just Brother Naazim pulling his old tricks. Trying to get into Kovalev's head.

that may have backfired. I can see Kovalev thinking "they're more scared of my power than anybody else's power."

no, i'm not saying kovalev was not the better man...clearly he was. my question is WHY was he the better man? size seems to have had a lot to do with it. i remember cotto coming in the corley fight at 154 while corley was like 138. cotto basically steamrolled the guy just because of his sheer size and strenghth advantage. even when corley landed that perfectly timed left hook that hurt cotto, he couldn't finish cotto because he just didn't have the power....

unless it's a guy like fmj in there, size counts for a lot in boxing.

the thing is hopkins wasn't just facing an elite guy...he was faciing an elite guy who was 18 years younger, 6-10 lbs heavier and also doctors his gloves to make his already heavy punches even heavier...and hopkins still gave a good account of himself and went the distance.

as for kovalev, he's really a cruiserweight who should be fighting guys like cunningham or haye. that's really the weight class he belongs in.

by the way, kovalev is not the only ee guy who is like that....beterbiev is also a small heavyweight...even fonfara looks like he should be at least a cruiseweight...in fact, lomachenko looked about 10 lbs bigger than gary russell jr...he should be fighting at lightweight.

adonis is not a good match up for hopkins...too much speed and too explosive. kovalev is a slow guy so hopkins was able to make him miss a lot and to circle him and keep away. the explosive power and quickness of stevenson would knock kovalev clean out....he would also be a problem for hopkins...

I would've picked BHop to win if he had fought Stevenson last week.
I'd probably pick Hopkins to beat Stevenson if that was Hopkins' next opponent. I just wonder how much that 12th round took out of the old man.

btw, i'm not the only one who noticed how huge kovalev looked compared to hopkins...ray mancini noticed the same thing too. hopkins didn't lose to a LH. he lost to a CW.
