Hopkins-Kovalev questions.

1. Why did Kovalev look so huge compared to hopkins? I know Kovalev supposedly weighed 188 on fight night compared to Hopkins 182, but me Kovalev looked a good 10-15 lbs bigger than hopkins. Even 188 is pretty big for a guy fighting at 175. Hopkins is a small LH having spent most of his career at MW. But Kovalev is pretty much a cruiserweight. This might account for why hopkins looked overpowered in there.

2. Why did Kovalev have to harden his gloves by punching the wall/doing knuckle push-ups while wearing the gloves/ punching his gloves together?..I mean, the guy is heavier and bigger than hopkins, not to mention he's supposed to be a puncher...and he's 18 years younger. Seems like dude had no confidence in all his other advantages...like maidana he needed to doctor the gloves to assure himself he would win.

3. Did hopkins fall victim to the age hype? To me, hops just didn't do enough...ok, we expected him to pace himself. in the first few rounds his low output made sense....but as we got into the mid and late rounds i expected him to do more...it was almost like even HE believed he might be to old to keep up. or maybe it was just that kovalev was so much bigger and stronger.

I dont think Hopkins is a small LHW. He turned pro inside CW and to my knowledge has had more fights above MW than below

well, you were more impressed with kovalev than i was...i think if hopkins did come in at 190 it would have made a difference....being bigger, heavier allows a fighter to impose his strength on the other guy...allows him to take the other guys punches better. a big, strong guy hits harder than a smaller guy...can wrestle and muscle the other guy into position. if hopkins was the same size as kovalev it's a very different fight.
