Will Hopkins be partly remembered as someone who feigned injuries and looked for a way out when the going got tough? Someone who didnt care if he robbed the fans of their hard earned money to try and get a fight illegitimately stopped?
Ive never liked Hopkins, didnt like his style and persona but i hope not. I was just on his Boxrec this morning its nothing short of incredible, he must be a very rich man. And his body has been able to defy time. What a career i hope he goes down as a true legend of the sport.
No. He'll go down as a legend. I remember reading a wrote that basically went like "Even if you beat Bernard, he takes something from you and you're never the same again" and I think that's true. Add to that his achievements over three divisions, his willingness to fight the very best and his longevity, and you've got an ATG. I can't stand him on many levels. 1) He rambles on like god knows what. Can never give a simple answer. 2) A lot of the time his style left a lot to be desired. 3) He was a racist, simple. But he fought a who's who of his time, outlasted many of them, and was never out of a fight with them (bar Kovalev) even if he lost. Those performances against Tito & Pavlik will go down as legendary clinics forever.
Hopkins quit, he had ample time to return to the ring but didn't want to know, smashed twice by white boys will be this bums legacy.
As a fan I didn't like this fight going in. I thought he should have left his period as going the distance with Kovalev at that age. Nothing he could have done in this fight would be as impressive as that anyway. No one will really care or remember this fight in a few weeks so I don't know what the point was.
Hopkins Legacy was sealed a long time ago. What happened tonight was funny. In the end he finally realized that the kid can really hit hard lmfao...
For the last decade ever fight has been win win. If he wins he adds to his legacy, if he loses it doesn't matter because he's too old.
