If you are new to boxing, now you know how bad Hopkins can make you look. I don't want to hear that he's old because he don't fight old. He just fights in a slow pace on purpose, a dirty fight landing great, crisp and QUICK shots on the inside. Ask Tito. Ask Tarver. As Winky. He was too old vs. Taylor (2 controversial losses), Tarver and Winky, according to many. And still no one dominated him. Neither Calzaghe, but...

...in the end of the day, Joe Calzaghe still landed TWICE as many shots as Hopkins. More than anyone!

Calzaghe landed more in one fight than Taylor in TWO! How bad Calzaghe looked compared to a 43 year-old? Stupid question, he's 36 himself for Christ's sake! Corrales (R.I.P). was a shot fighter at 29. Jones was KO'd at 34 twice by Tarver and Glen, other oldies who were getting better and better 35+. Age factor is overrated.

Remember who had a good fight last Saturday? Tarver and Glen, two guys to barely won a round vs. Hopkins, who made them look bad as well. Bernard was 41 when he fought Tarver. 42 when he defeated p4p#3 Winky. Barely lost to Taylor, 2 funny decisions. Until today, according to the HBO team, no one has ever landed 187 punches on a dirty, but very very very smart, intelligent, accurate old fox...

How good is Joe? I don't know, definitely not too powerful at 175, but let me tell you just for your arguments: he was a SMALLER FIGHTER STEPPING UP IN WEIGHT and in his first fight at 175 in the US and vs. an American Icon, a bigger, stronger guy, he did just more than Glen, Tito, Oscar (old days), Taylor, Tarver and Wright (40+) ever could. :happy

    COMPUBOX NUMBERS:
    Total punches:
    CALZAGHE: 232/707 33%
    HOPKINS: 127/468 27%

    Power caterogry:
    CALZAGHE: 187/483 39%!!!!
    HOPKINS: 116/375

Oh yeah. How good is Hopkins at 43, his speed, timing and reflexes? Ask Joe Calzaghe after the first minute of their fight! :D

The 5 years younger Joe or the 36 years old Joe?

He fights in a slow pace because he IS old, especially comparing to his older fights where he was the aggressor throwing a 100 punches a round.

The compubox numbers were way off, I could probably count on one hand how many solid punches Calzaghe landed in the entire fight.

Props to both guys though Calzaghe a consesus P4P top 3 getting a defining win (albeit in a close fight) and Hopkins at 43 for making a very competitive fight against a top guy closer to his prime.

Thats fine, but why then are people knocking Dawson for having a close match against a guy who's very tough to look good against in Johnson?

I have no idea. Dawson put on a tremendous performance last Saturday. I had Johnson ahead of 115-113 and still respect Dawson more than ever.

This thread doesn't work, as all the guys you mentioned fought younger and fresher versions of Nard, regardless Nard was the dominant fighter in this fight and landed the harder punches and did the real damage.

Calzaghe tried to make a fight while Hopkins held.

All 4 guys, Dawson, Calzaghe, Johnson, and Hopkins, are all top fighters, not matter what there age is. Johnson and Hopkins are probably equally as tough to figure out in the ring IMO, both Johnson and Hopkins still have what it takes to compete with anyone around 168, 179.

The only reason that match can be called a fight is becuaseof Calzaghe. Imagine if that was Hopkins vs another Hopkins - would have been an aboslute waste of time (nevermind the money).
