He shows up and does his job and says his piece, but that doesn't mean he has to waste his time when reporters say "what's happening." Honestly that's unprofessional from a journalistic standpoint.

If you think one comment about whites makes him a complete racist and can't appreciate his technical skill and the excitement he's given in lots of fights throughout his career, then I feel bad for you. Why not? He wasn't getting anything like the money elsewhere that Calzaghe offered. Was Hopkins worth $6m at that point in his career? Seriously? He wasn't even worth $3m considering what he was making before fighting De La Hoya.

How much did he, or anyone else, think a fight with Calzaghe would have generated? Asking for $6m is probably more than what the fight would have made, so Calzaghe would have earned nothing and FW would have had to pay Hopkins for the privilege of coming over. At $3m, he was still earning more than Calzaghe and that was a more than fair offer. Even Hopkins knew it was fair which is why he accepted it.

He didn't want anything to do with Jones or Calzaghe back then and priced himself out of both fights.

Sure, they're insensitive, and I disagree with them. But his words don't harm white social mobility the way it would were the opposite to happen. Actions speak louder than words, and he's proven himself a legend in the sport and a shining example of self-discipline.
