They all had long reign in their divisions: Michalczewski - 24 wins, LHW, mostly WBO, best wins: Rocciciani, Hill, Griffin Calzaghe - 22 wins, SMW, mostly WBO, best wins: EUbank, Lacy, Kessler Ottke - 22 wins, SMW mostly IBF, best wins: Johnson, Mitchell, Reid Hopkins - 20 wins, 1 NC at MW, mostly IBF, best wins: Johnson, Trinidad, DLH who do you think have the best record/most impressive reign counting ONLY the times during they scored these long defenses
If you're taking the title streak only, it's Michalczewski, otherwise Hopkins. But you could argue that Hopkins won vs. Taylor and was strategically put away, so then it's Hopkins again.
The fight with Taylor been close but that still lose and that happened 2x. On the other hand DM during his 'reign' moved up for one fight to CW and captured CW title over there. As for Cazlaghe he ended on high note being unbeaten and linear champion. Ottke .. I guess being unbeaten is his only asset here, but he may still wins depending how many Germans will vote in the pool
Whilst being a supporter of Calzaghe I would still have to say Hopkins had the most impressive reign. Tougher division, unified the titles earlier and was robbed by taylor. Ottke was an absolute bum getting gift decisions in germany and does not deserve to be mentioned with these 3
Just title reign: Michaelchewski - not only has the most defences but also unified three belts and beat overall the best opposition of these and made 10 defences of the linear title. The most of all four. Hopkins - also unified but all 4 belts. His opposition is slightly worse then DM's. Won't complain if some people switch those two. Calzaghe - unified three belts but only stepped up opposition at the end of his reign, so his overall resume lacks a bit compared with the other two. Ottke - unified two belts. The Reid debacle should count against him. Apart from that his reign is up there with the reing of he others. Without the Kessler win, Calzaghe wouldn´ t be above him actually.
Hopkins and Calzaghe, yes they are in the same realm remotely. Michalczewski, not close. and Ottke, don't ever make that comparison again. Its like comparing a Geo Metro to a Ferrari.
Ottke hahahaha he is clearly 4th from above. 6KO in 34 fights, many by controversial decisions he was a joke not a real champ
