    Whether Trinidad was his best win or not what is true is that it was a good win and it was over an established middleweight, he had just beaten a middleweight contender, so that makes it a legitimate middleweight fight for Hopkins, regardless of how many middleweight fights Trinidad had. It is definitely a better win than Oscar, which is not a good win at 160 in my opinion as i thought he lost to Felix Sturm clearly. Trinidad for me is a better win than Joppy in terms of the at the time 160 scene because he had just obliterated him. In terms of which was a better win in hindsight then you can take different approaches to it. If you are going to say Joppy is a better win because of his body of work at 160 in comparison to Trinidad's then that is feasible, but what it puts the emphasis on is that Hopkins' best 160 win was over a non-great. If you take the opinion that Trinidad is a better win than Joppy for Hopkins because of reasons aforementioned then you are putting the emphasis on Hopkins beating a great fighter. Everybody has an angle. For me i'll put myself out there and say Trinidad is his best 160 win because it was over an established 160 man (no debate), who was great, albeit only great in terms of achievements at lower weights, and Trinidad seriously outclassed Joppy.

    His best ever win might be Tarver, i consider him to have beaten Calzaghe but technically speaking Calzaghe was not great at light-heavyweight.

    Not like a German to try and cyber bully is it.:roll:

    No Welshman is afraid of a Sour Kraut {we beat you in two World wars dont forget, even Napoleon beat you}, or any Anglo race come to that, you like to stick together dont you to try and rule the World, we conquered America and some Yanks dont like it, Prince Madoc 1170 conquered America for Wales, we were outnumbered 100 to 1 by the English back home but wouldnt give up our freedom and still have our identity and culture to this day, full independance is coming again, we have our own Assembly, they dont like it also, that over half the signatures were Welsh decendants on the declaration of independance well we wouldnt be fighting for the crown would we.
    The Anglo's are jeolous that Jimmy Wilde is the greatest ever P4P boxer, African Americans dont like it when Welsh boxers beat them because they have Welsh names like Hopkins, Jones, Lewis, Williams etc because of where their names often originated.
    You Anglo's can stick together but we all know the truth, Germans are a bunch of losers, America belongs to the Welsh by right of conquest, England has a thorn in its backside with 'Cymru am byth' written on it and the whole boxing World is jealous that a country smaller than most cities has produced the greatest ever P4P boxer in Jimmy Wilde a modern unbeaten star like Joe Calzaghe and great champions like Jim Driscoll and Freddie Welsh.

    Talking now is it, what is the answer to the questions then ?
    So far we have career welterweight Trinidad, as Hopkins greatest ever middleweight win.
    We have the great, well perhaps not so great Tarver, as Hopkins greatest ever win full stop.

    So that leaves:-
    Is Hopkins an ATG ? {if so top 100 or top 50}
    and
    When was Hopkins prime ?

    PS I agree with you on Trinidad and Tarver, not very impressive for a potential ATG under the circumstances and im being honest in my assessment in saying that, what about the last two questions.

    Yes he is an atg, there are other fighters considered great who don't have a win over a bona fide great at their finest weight, so let's just make sure we are consistent with the application of our logic, that goes to everyone. I really can't say top 50 or top 100 sorry as i haven't compiled such a list.

    His prime was probably when most fighters' primes are, around 20-something, i don't know when his peak was though, it's hard to say. For me somebody like Floyd Mayweather actually looks a better ring general in his later years after declining somewhat physically (therefore not in his physical prime), so you have to find the balance and determine when his actual peak was. It might be similar with Bernard. His best performances came around the Tito fight, some of the performances in the years leading up to that were immense.

    I like how hopkins was fighting in his mid to late 30's. his fights with rock allen, antwun echols, and tito were a very nice blend of his ring smarts and he still had some decent speed. He had a lot of weapons at his command in those fights and he had the athletisicm to use them.

    I think he's an all time great, but i never made a list so not sure where to put him. im a fan of his too so im biased.

    If Hopkins didn't lose most of his left lung in a near fatal condom accident he would have been the GOAT. As is he beats every HW before Ali.

    Teeto you seem to have gone off an a strange tangent and forgot the key point here, Calzaghe only ever beat bums and old men

    Hopkins didnt win a World title till he was 30, Hopkins didnt fight career welterweights Trinidad and DLH till he was late 30's in fact I think he was nearly 40 when he fought DLH, Hopkins big fights didnt come until his 40's he was a late starter without much amateur background as far as I know {infact I dont know about his amateur days full stop}.

    I don't see what you're trying to tell me. I know all this.

    Prime=your physical best years

    Peak=when you were at your best as a result of the determining factors of the overall make-up of yourself as a fighter.

    Like i said, Hopkins was likely in his prime when most people are, but it is hard to say when his peak was.

    During that period Hopkins fought Allen three times and Echols twice, what was that all about ???, he also fought Council, Daniels and Hakkar during this period of apparent greatness.

    Oh ok i see, your angle is that Hopkins wasn't great. You should just state your own argument instead of hiding it and trying to fault those of others. I've given mine anyway, i must go now.

    Au contraire Monsieur teeto, I think Bernard Hopkins is a great, I also think he who's name must not be mentioned on an American board is also great, there is nothing in it between resumes of both boxers, if one resume is better than the other its minimal, but the other one may have stronger top end wins against men fully blown at the weight, one boxer has some losses the other has no losses at all, the younger boxer won head to head away from home against the older boxer but due to the late career and blooming of the older boxer the younger boxer was less prime and closer to retirement, at the very least it evened things out.
    Forgetting favouritism and hype and lets hope for the classic forums sake that biasness and favouritism is kept to a minimum, there is not much between Hopkins and he who cant be mentioned on an American board, if we deal only in facts then either both of them are ATG's or neither, there is no basis for saying one is and one isnt, particularly if one is going to be an eye watering top 30 ATG, its not justifiable to have the other out of sight, when the other has won every fight they ever had and was lineal and won the head to head.
