There's a video on YouTube where Kovalev explains why he went the cleverly route he said it was because Hopkins was taking forever to sign and I bealive him more then Hopkins based off history..

You also say Kovalev is beating up bums but the guy Hopkins just beat should have lost to Campillo a guy Kovalev destroyed in 3 rounds

Stevenson - Fonfara should be a good fight.

I have Stevenson winning by UD

Campillo can't take a punch, he was two or three times touching the canvas in the very first round against Thunder Cloud. The rest may be a case of a boxing affair like JMM-Pac I but he could have gone in round one against Cloud.

While I like Kovalev here he is either lying or very misinformed.

17th June 2013 IBF orders Hopkins/Kovalev due to Murat's visa problems.

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2013/06/ibf-orders-bernard-hopkins-to-face-sergey-kovalev-breaking-news/

20th June Hopkins makes a statement saying he is willing to fight Kovalev

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2013/06/hopkins-agrees-to-fight-kovalev/

21st June Kovalev signs to fight Cleverly and IBF reinstates Murat as mandatory.

    http://www.boxingnews24.com/2013/06/ibf-to-reinstall-karo-murat-as-hopkins-mandatory-challenger/

So that's 4 days between the IBF ordering the fight and Kovalev signing to fight Cleverly. Fact is Kovalev's team were already negotiating to fight Cleverly and took this fight over Hopkins. If anyone was ducking it was Kovalev, just look at the Lara/Canelo/Smith situation no reason why they couldn't have changed plans and fought Hopkins instead.

Hopkins will clearly be undisputed champion if he beats the lineal champion Adonis Stevenson. The 3 main belts + the ring belt is more than enough ! Otherwise, you can say there was only one undisputed champion in the history of boxing ! (Hopkins when he beat De la Hoya, when we all know he was regarded for years undisputed when he beat Trinidad and held 3 belts).
Wasn't Joe Calzaghe undisputed champion when he beat Kessler? If you check, he didn't have the IBF belt at the time.
Wasn't Darchinyan udisputed champion when he beat Mijares? If you check, he didn't have the WBO belt at the time.
Hell, most people consider Andre Ward to be undisputed champion at 168 after he won the super six, even though he only had two belts.

It's almost impossible to hold all belts at the same time because of the corrupt organizations. I'm pretty sure that Bhop will be forced to fight a mandatory before or after Stevenson otherwise the IBF will strip his belt (the most corrupt organization of them all), and maybe the WBC will force him to fight a mandatory as well, and then he won't be available to unify all the belts until he is 51.

The point is, it's almost impossible to hold all 4 belts because of the mandatory. It's no surprise that Hopkins, who always agreed to fight mandatories, is the only one that managed to do so. But he is far from the only undisputed champ ever.

The winner of Hopkins-Stevenson will be considered undisputed champion and Kovalev will be the undisputed number one contender. It's not that difficult to figure out.

Hopkins ain't a ducker, don't be childish... he never ducked anybody, He's a one of the all time greats. It's quite simple in the business of boxing:

Cleverly = High Risk + Big Payday + Medium Reward : Hopkins doesn't KO anyone these days so he he has to win 9:3 to get a decision in Wales. But it was maybe the biggest money fight for him (UK PPV money + packed millenium stadium), even if Cleverly was a paper champion.

Stevenson = High Risk + Big Payday + High Reward: Stevenson is the real champion in the division, and he will gets lots of money (Canada PPV + Full Staduim in Montreal).

Kovalev = High Risk + Small Payday + Medium Reward: Both are not PPV fighters and don't have fan bases to fill stadiums. Kovalev, like Cleverly was, and like Hopkins was before he beat Shumenov (he is still not the champ), is just a paper champ.

Bottom line: Kovalev needs to step up and beat guys like Pascal / Dawson / Cloud / Etc to increase his profile in the United States. Hopkins won't fight him for 1 million $
