So Hopkins takes a shot at the WBO belt and everyone is willing to turn a blind eye to the shame that is the We Be Crooks belt and the WBA super champions/regular champions and who knows what champion belts they have.

The champion makes the belt and in the this case Kovalev is as legit as they come. When Shumenov was holding the WBA belt they robbed from Campillo, did any really consider him a champion? Nobody did.

Hopkins had a chance to take on Kovalev, but were dragging their feet and didn't want to put on the fight. Kovalev did the smart thing by fighting someone willing to fight him.

 

Also, Showtime refused to broadcast that fight back when Kovalev was BHop's mandatory and before Kovalev signed with HBO.
Pretty convenient, huh?

 

Not surprising that Showtime was very likely involved in the GBP/Haymon/Hopkins LHW conspiracy, while Kovalev was not.
This is what Boxers pay Al Haymon for, why he is a value and why Kovalev's present promoters and advisers are not.

Remember when Kovalev's management jumped on Showtime to complain and the Showtime rep said that he had never once received a telephone call from them on their fighter's behalf.
