The only fighter in the world I'd favor to actually stop Hopkins would be Wladimir Klitschko. Perhaps David Haye would have an outside chance as well. That doesn't mean Hopkins wouldn't lose fights to others, but stopping him? I doubt it. Having said that, I thought there was a couple of occasions in the Taylor fight when he was caught and momentarily stunned. The 11th round in the second fight he went into a protective shell and wasn't in any kind of position to counter or even feint. This was after a flurry of hooks by Taylor in the middle of the ring.
lol i would be jumping on them odds all days long.. even 8/15.. guna get my bet done within the next couple of days before the bookies who have him at 8/15 realise they made a big ****ing mistake!
http://www.oddschecker.com/other-sports/boxing/joe-calzaghe-v-bernard-hopkins/win-market/joe-calzaghe 8/15 seems the best Bet365 currently offering 7/2 against a Calzaghe win by KO/TKO/DQ - worth a punt to me!
Joe will probably break his hands fooling around with BHop. Don't count on Hop getting hit flush alot.
I disagree that Hopkins was stunned in the 11th round in the 2nd fight. To be stunned, you need to be hit flush and Hopkins got hit with maybe a few flush shots in BOTH their fights. Really, it was just a case of him covering up. But stunned? Not a chance.
The only problem Calazaghe will have is his being sloppy. You can't be sloppy against hop. He will exploit that weakness from miles away. Standing with his arms low will have him in for a very long bloody night.
in his fight against Mercado at about 3,000m in altitude he was knocked down twice and around rounds 7 or 8 looked completely out of breath and looked like Wlad when he lost to Brewster but somehow he managed to catch his second breath and came back very strong in the championship rounds. apart from that he's never really been troubled. Taylor got his ass whipped even though he won those fights he took a beating and Hopkins barely got touched.
That's cool. I obviously can't prove it, but something about Hopkins' stance suggested to me that he'd felt Taylor's power.
On film, I've never seen Hopkins badly hurt or ready to go. I've seen him stunned for a second or caught off guard, but never seriously in trouble.
Taylor did not take a beating. That is revisionist history. He took a few counter right hands, but Hopkins didn't throw enough punches to rack up significant damage. Bernard also was a wilting flower in the second fight, let's not forget.
