hopkins is known for talking ****. he just wants to talk and someone to listen at press conferences. he's trained longer than that - trust me.
wladimir trains 6 weeks and he is in perfect condition. the only reason why some fighters do 12-14 week camps is simply to get IN to shape before they can really buckle down for sparring/technique etc. fighters like floyd mayweather, hopkins, klitschkos train 5-6 days a week all year round. so when they go into camp, they only need to focus on technique and sparring for the most part. also fighters who stack on weight in the divisions lower than heavyweight, need to boil down to a certain limit. but if you stay in top shape all the time you dont need more than 5-6 weeks :good
B-Hops is always training or doing something constructive.... 5 weeks is plenty for the old man... Peace...:yep MR.BILL
I reckon Hopkins has Pavlik set up for a sucker punch early in the fight, all this niceness and stuff. I think he wants to lure him into a false sense of security. BHOP is a fitness fanatic, he'll be in shape no matter what
While I'm not worried about it, Freddie Roach talking about how Hopkins got insanely tired around round 7 and was unable to tell him why makes me wonder if maybe he's overtrained in the past...and is trying an easier approach?
Don't think Roach said Hopkins was getting insanely tired, he just wasn't happy with Hopkins not knowing the corner and not being active enough. As far as I remember Hopkins threw nearly 80 punches in the 11th or 12th(can't remember but one of the championship rounds). Yeah he did land a low percentage but still threw 80, a tired man wouldn't.
I SO wish I could find the quote..but Roach said he was surprised how tired Hopkins was coming into the final stretch. He kept asking Bernard where his energy was and to push the pace but 'Nard never could do it. Unless Bernard was just ignoring him (possible)...I think he's got some stamina problems we don't know about.
Calzaghe's activity had a lot do with it to be honest, only a fight ago against Winky he was active and throwing, hurt Winky numerous times and even late in the fight, same with Tarver. It's Calzaghe's activity that forced him to remain slow because Calzaghe was just throwing punches from different angles and kept his hands going, that made Bernard look and feel very slow. You can be right though, he could have been tired.
See but even going back to Taylor fights, you kind of got the idea that he sacrificed all of the early rounds so he could have the stamina to handle the latter rounds. I dunno man, I guess the ultimate indicator will be rounds 7-12 of his upcoming fight with Pavlik
Bernard is confusing though I'm sure he knows what he does, against Taylor he showed no activity at all and started working in the 8th of the first fight. Then he comes in against Tarver, two weight divisions above, older and a HUGE underdog yet he's active from start to finish without showing signs of being tired or even close to it. We'll see how he does against Pavlik.
I really can't wait til 30-40 years pass to see how newer boxing fans in 2047 analyze Bernard Hopkins. He's probably the only fighter to evolve his style repeatedly throughout his career. It'll be interesting to say the least.
