Much smaller framed men moving up to fight a natural middle. How much credit can you possibly give? Exactly. I do not care much for the odds, all they show was the gamblers didn’t think that much of Hopkins. I was sure he’d win that fight and he did with dirty tactics. I feel the same for Monzon by the way as part of his game is based on smaller or sometimes older men. This doesn’t make someone a hater, it makes them correct Maybe Hopkins competition is slightly better at 160, but to me is clear who looked better and struggled less. I call it as I see it.
The oft-cited myth that Tito was a "blown up welter" never ceases to amaze me. This content is protected
Well, Canelo used to compete at WW and was schooled by a small WW in his mid 30's. Yet GGG couldn't even hurt him, whereas Hopkins stopped both Tito and DLH. Are you seriously claiming that Hopkins needed to fight dirty to beat Tito?
Are you silly? He never faced Toney He was green in the first fight and won the rematch. Also do you think GGG would've beaten either of them. I don't in fact they'd both embarrass him, I'm also a GGG fan
Great vid, big fan. I Find it unbelievable that at 36, nearly 37 was a 4 to 1 underdog, who then went on to beat ATGs like Tarver, Jones, Wright, Pavlik and Del a Hoya as well as good wins like Pascal, Joppy and Allen. He had one of the best runs of the 2000s imo. It'd have been even better if he imo rightfully got the decisions against Taylor and Calzhage. Tito might've been the most underrated middleweight ever
Hopkins had been fighting for 15 years by that point and had 49 professional fights under his belt. He'd been making 160 for 13 years and it was obviously taking it's toll given his new lease of life, output and energy when he jumped up not one but two divisions. GGG has 2 less under his belt even at this point and 9 less fights. I agree the JT fights were very close and many thought Hopkins won at least one. 3 or 4 years earlier he'd have gotten past Taylor reasonably comfortably imo.
The fact of the matter and it's a shame, is that GGG was avoided in his prime for good reasons. GGG did things to fighters that others were unable to. Nobuhiro Ishida, knocking out James Kirkland,, Losing in competitive bouts against Paul Williams and Dmitry Pirog going the distance with both. Gets knocked out by GGG in round 3. Matthew Macklin loses a split to Felix Sturm and Takes Sergio Martinez 11 rounds to TKO,, Takes GGG 3 rounds to stop KO Macklin. Martin Murray fights to a draw with Felix Sturm, Drops a UD against Sergio Martinez, Fights Arthur Abraham to a Split, Drops a 12 round D to George Groves,, GETS knocked out by GGG in round 11,, So are we to conclude that GGG is better than Paul WIlliams, Dmitry Pirog, Felix Sturm, Sergio Martinez, Arthur Abraham and George Groves based off of results.. All of which are fighters that would have done great in any era's of the sport,, I respect both GGG and Hopkins both for different reasons both should be held with high regard!
It's a Hopkins, Hopkins, Hopkins for me. GGG is a damn good fighter tho i must add. I think it's fair to say he probably breaks the Top 20 in a really stacked division.
I think most would agree that GGG is better than those guys, maybe with the caveat that Pirog beat Jacobs (albeit a greener version) far more convincingly and never really got to show what he could do. But being better than those doesn't by itself mean he's on Hopkins's level. Convincing wins against say Martinez, Williams and one of the others might even take him ahead of Hopkins as far as MW resume is concerned, though. I'd especially like to see him against Pirog. Would be a great one, I think.
BALONEY,you guys always claim to be a fan of the guy your knocking. U HOP HEAD fans are the most ridiculas in sports who did this scum beat besides Trinidad.
