I would genuinely like to know who do you think was/is the better counter-puncher in between Hopkins and Toney. At any weight, at any times.
Hopkins countered with his straight right hand better than Toney, while Toney countered with his left hook better than Hopkins. Overall, I think Bernard is a better counterpuncher. James Toney's strength was using body angles and head movement to create counterpunching oppurtunities on the inside.
There seems that there is a lot of Hopkins-Toney threads based on their ringcraft lately, they're hard to judge!!! Anyway, Toney's crafty counters were flashier and more obvious imo than Hopkins', which were subtle most of the time. Toney could really mix it up and beat a man to the punch when in the pocket, but B-Hop was avoiding more imo, plus he was able to really destroy a man's hart off the ropes, and he never left himself open. I dont know if thats a correct analysis, but its really tight, and based on that i will favour B-Hop. I just think he was great!!!!!!
