Toney won more titles. Hopkins had more title fights. I think the two even out. Would've loved to see this fight at 175.

Had him winning the first Peter fight 115-112. We'll agree to disagree on the subject of who was actually better. I made my points, you made your points, and I doubt anything will lead us to change our positions.

Prime for prime at 160, Toney wins 116-112.

Toney was the overall better fighter but couldn't maximize on his great talent.

Based on accomplishments, Hopkins is a top 75 fighter of all time, Toney is top 100.

    Toney for me.

Hopkins would never fight the likes of Jirov, Peter, etc. I mean it took a heck of bitching before he signs a fight with Tarver, Wright, etc.

Once again, all that proves is that Toney carried 200+ pounds better than Hopkins would. It doesn't validate your belief that Toney was a better overall fighter than Hopkins.

If Toney had the dedication of Hopkins or Hopkins the talent of Toney that person would be unbeatable. I have to pick Toney cause his crazy skills able to beat Heavies showing the whole world that technique wins out over everythng

Have you seen a determined and well trained Toney ever beaten (the few times there was one)

What rounds was hopkins fighting in the pocket? 1st round? 2nd round? 3th round? First of all, the Glen Johnson is not a good example for you to try and compare hopkins to Toney defensively. hopkins in that fight against Glen Johnson was not sitting in the pocket making Glen Johnson miss. Glen Johnson was throwing one punch at a time. hopkins used basically same defense that he uses today. He was holding or clinching at times. Glen Johnson was slow and methodical which gave hopkins ample opportunity to throw more punches. Glen Johnson would simple cover up and let hopkins tee off on him. I'm sorry but it's not a good example.

Fine, bad example, but be as it may, Hopkins defense is comparable to Toney because he was equally hard to hit. They just go about their defense in different ways. Toney with the shoulder roll, Hopkins with his fundamentals and movement.

And going back to your original post where you said Hopkins simply clinches and mauls opponents, do you really think that's what a prime Hopkins did? Do you think he would only clinch and maul? No, he kept up a very high workrate and threw every punch in the book to the body and the head. Today, his offensive strategy is nothing compared to what it used to be. And while you seem so confident that Toney was the superior fighter because he could make opponents miss in the pocket better, how about Hopkins' movement and versatility?

He never beats Roy Jones, sorry.

And guys like Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon would have beaten him too.

This, this right here is why I consider Toney to be so overrated. Because of completely illogical fans like this.
