Hopkins - Pascal, Scorecard and thoughts on the fight.

As you say I think its just arse covering for the judges to score those sort of rounds 10-8 a lot of the time. No one ever really gets brought to task for it or asked to justify why they scored the round that way.

Its just a lazy "Knockdown? yeah, 10-8"

 

I think more had Calzaghe winning at the time if memory serves. Maybe it dosen't. The very definition of a close fight.
Besides how many opponents have given Hopkins that many problems and made him look so bad?

Anyway, Hopkins put on a masterclass and deserved a fairly clear ud.Not as bad as the awful Huck-Lebedev judging though and Hopkins is the moral winner in most peoples eyes.

 

I think the reason why people are calling it a robbery is due to Hopkins pretty much dominating the contest from round 4 onwards. If it wasn't for the knockdown's, he would have won at a canter. Close, but clear decision for Hopkins for me.

So fighter A got 1 point for the KD, but Fighter B got two points for his?

Or am I being stupid?

 

i had it even going into round 10, with those early knockdowns...12th was close
i was gutted...really wanted to see hopkins get that title.
hoping there will be a very quick rematch.

 

Yeah, thats how the rules read to me. It still beats giving out 3 points for a KD though eh?

 

Can't believe I fell asleep around the 5th round :-(, thought Pascal would be the one coming on strong in the later rounds. I need to give this a watch.

Pascal has a habit of fading, or perhaps his better opponents work him out. Did very, very little of note in the last half of the fight.

 

I had pascal winning the 1st 3 rounds, so with the 2 kd, its +5points already. One or two of the rounds were close so it's not ill conceivable to give another 2 to pascal and hopkins won the rest which made it 113-113 for me.

Hopkins deserves the plaudits, at 45 years of age to put on a show like that is quite amazing. I only wish I can be half as fit when I'm 45

 

So it wasn't a robbery but nearly everyone thought Hopkins won? I just downloaded it and Hop absolutely schooled the guy. Pascal isn't the fighter people thought, he's clearly weak to the body and his work-rate is borderline pathetic for a young athletic fighter. He has David Haye at heavyweight syndrome. Even Chad Dawson who is not exactly seen as a strong, offensive type of fighter was beating on Pascal towards the end of the fight. Pascal was outworked by a middle aged man here. Awful.

All that said, Hopkins is a marvel and a true great.

 

His stylye does remind me of Haye actually, but not as fast and accurate or anywhere near as powerful.

 

Gutted that Hopkins didn't get the decision. Clear, clear win for him. Pascal knew after the fight as well, you could see from his body language that he was gutted and knew he got whipped
