Has there been any word on how many buys there were for this fight? It was advertised pretty heavily, but I haven't seen any numbers anywhere following the fight. Is it possible that the numbers were so disappointing that they are reluctant to release them?
Steve Kim from the website where boxing is to the max, says he heard it did below 200,000 but he didn't really specify. im guessing it did 150,000 to 170,000
Less than 200K? Damn, that's shabby. I thought it would surprise us and do much better. The intrigue on Pavlik must have been pretty low. People were apparently apathetic about this kid.
People seem to not understad AMERICAN boxing is dead... unless your mexican, rican, you might have your little niche fans... but overall, i really dont expect much more from boxing down the stretch unless theres other factors involved (like being from another country that actually has the balls to love boxing)
No one seemed to care about Pavlik-Hopkins till Hopkins won. It seemed to be assumed by most that Pavlik would win.
I try to not let it bother me anymore.... i have to realise that the majority will never have the attention span to appreciate boxing... and i will have to deal with it, the thing i DONT understand is how other counties still have the minds and balls to have boxing as a true major sport though... props to them.
I disagree w/ that. People were apathetic about Hopkins...Honestly, think about it...His fight w/ calzaghe was free on HBO. A lot of potential buyers saw the snooze fest that was calzaghe-hopkins and didn't wanna watch bernard again. Thats my take.
why thank you, no seriously i like your point i just hope mma dont start huge successes in my country back to lesnar couture, sometimes these ufc events with a long list of fights can seem better value for money to some people than just 1 fight with a shabby undercard personally i dont care the only country where there is an argument for mma been more popular is usa worldwide we kick ass and always will :happy
boxing is still a pretty big spot in alot of countries like philipines, all around africa, britain, germany etc, its just the u.s thats strugglin
Pavlik shouldn't be on PPV's yet. instead of PPV's, he should have been promoted more and on regular boxing channels to get him more exposure. They ****ed up making this a PPV because yeah hopkins is a big name, but I think a lot of people were turned off by his last two fights (calzaghe/winky) and didn't buy because they didn't want to watch another stinker. And Pavlik simply isn't a big enough name yet
