Hopkins is not ppv material, ppeople expected another negative display like he put against Calzaghe and Taylor why should they pay, he was going off a loss and fighting a non title fight, i dont know how much they were chargin for the fight but it wouldnt have been worth it.
How do you not put Calzaghe Hopkins on PPV but Pavlik Hopkins on ?? Joe at least has a huge following over seas what did Pavlik bring ? One town ???
Boxing is dead because Hopkins - Pavlik did poorly? C'mon now. 2007 was a GREAT year for boxing, even if you're only going by Pay-Per-View numbers. One of the biggest fighters in the sport just retired (Mayweather), and the biggest fight of the year hasn't even happened yet... so why is someone in this thread saying boxing is 'dead' in America?
Maybe not now, or after calzaghe/winky, but he has always put up great PPV numbers (it does take two to tango however, unless your named de la hoya or most recently, mayweather). Even the Winky fight did around 305,000 buys (something along those lines) despite all the negative press leading up to the fight, which is very good these days. And prior to that, the Tarver fight did about 330,000 buys. And of course his numbers against trinidad & de la hoya were fantastic (of course those are the biggest names in boxing though).
