Hopkins Payback-faking and raking

Pathetic show from Hopkins. If he'd have gotten up angry and wailing at Dawson for throwing him to the ground and tried to throw a blow or two but was in too much pain from his injury, as least he wouldn't have looked such a lemon. :yep

 

Fight should've been an nc but I can't find any sympathy for Hopkins. Karma mate.

 

anyone think hopkins looked like oscar did when he got knocked out, pounding his glove into the mat? how many people said oscar quit and was playing it up?

finally watched the "tko" and hopkins didn't want to continue. Shoulder problems or not, he lost a dirty fight against a clean fighter

 

My thoughts exactly Bummy, Hopkins faking has finally caught up with him.

Will this hurt Hopkins legacy ?, to a degree i think it will, my be a small degree but i still think it hurts him a little in the atg status, the way that he will be perceived compared to other greats, because this isnt a one off he did it in defeat against Calzaghe as well.

 

Boxing needs to get back on local television and it needs to find young hungry contenders and make them visible to the public. This is unacceptible. Hopkins should retire. Would he have been able to contend at his age in another era...Say Haglers era or Robinsons' or some of the other great MW eras? No he wouldn't. He would've been exposed quickly as a past prime champ looking to hang on, cash in and pad his legacy. Back in the 70's and 80's you could watch good fighters trying to make a name for themselves on weekend sports shows like ABC Wide World of Sports and NBC Sportsworld. Now you have to pay 50 big ones to watch this crap. It's all about money and it's too bad. It really is.

 

No fighter since "no mas" Duran has taken so complete a "tumble" in terms of prestige. He's effectively degraded himself pretty badly IMO.

Say what you will about Duran, at least he made it clear he didn't want to fight. He was honest about it, sort of. I'd rather be honest and quit than fake something and hope for a DQ win/point deduction on the opponent.. I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror doing that.

But hey, Hopkins comes from the street yo, he's been to prison and is old school. To call those antics "old school" is a disgrace to the warriors that went before him. :-(

Well put and true. And there is talent out there. The promoters just need to get out of the way, stop trying to make every match a super fight (by retreading these old timers) and try to get some returns from free TV. The thinking in the sport is all short-term, perhaps because you have complete geriatrics running it from the top.

 

Yes...Duran was honest at least..and who knows..maybe the fight before him in the ring and the fight raging in his overstuffed bowels was just too big a "load" for one man to bear :hey...whereas Hopkins slimy work ethic and penchant for taking the easy way out in any cheap way possible surely suffers by comparison.
