"my objective is in this is to prove in my whole career I fought everybody in my era and somebody's else era win lose or draw that's how I want to be remembered fighting the best" what ever happens Hopkins deserves credit for not ducking the best in his weight class at the age OF 50!
at almost fifty, he has nothing to lose. if he wins, he is a god. if he loses, it's because of his age. he and jones dodged each other(and any credible threats) all through the late nineties.
Whatever happens, Hopkins is a pure legend and an ATG. It might take forever to see someone like him again.
I agree he loses nothing just a shame some of the fighters in this era have not got the balls he has :good
How did they dodge each other if they already fought?. How did they duck any credible threats when they cleaned out their divisions and unified?. How the hell is someone who dodges fighters like Hopkins do what he's doing today and especially in his age? Only idiots are sticking to the "Jones and Hopkins dodged a bunch of unknown irrelevant fighters" nonsense.
exactly if he dodged anyone at that time he would certainly duck guys in his 50s I remember in one interview of mayweather he said we are not fighting to prove to the fans who is the best and you got Hopkins here who is the complete opposite
they talked **** on every hbo broadcast about each other. never had a rematch until both were irrelevant. yep, irrelevant. this fight is simply kovalev beating a guy simply looking to cash out.
That and Stevenson didn't want it and the networks didn't want BHop vs Nadjib Mohammedi. Also, Main Events dropping their lawsuit against GBP probably sweetened things.
Only an idiot would think that Hopkins is fighting purely for money. There is no way in hell you would motivate a 50 year old to compete at the top level in the most dangerous sport in the world purely for money. This type of motivation is clearly that of someone addicted to his profession and hobby, if you can't see it, then you're just another clueless simpleton. Irrelevant or not, they still fought each other when both were in their primes. The rematch didn't happen as soon as you wanted it to for obvious reasons, if you don't know what they are then welcome to boxing and Google is your friend.
Only a brain dead moron would disrespect someone like Hopkins. Sure it's fine to hate him for whatever reasons, but no one that knows anything about this sport or even dared to experience it even at the lowest level doesn't respect this man for the extraordinary and dare I say insane achievements at 50 years of age. It's enough that there will never ever be anyone like him in the sport again.
It's funny how many people said he wouldn't fight Kovalev despite having said he would when Kovalev was his mandatory. Also funny when people said he was ducking Dawson yet agreed to fight him and it was Hopkins not Dawson who chased for a rematch. Hopkins has throughout most of his career sought out the best opposition, not always as politics of boxing and the nature of the business of course get in the way but pretty much most of the time. He fought Taylor when Taylor was seen as the future of the division and seen as a threat. He moved up to face Tarver when most thought it was a mistake to do so. He fought Wright when Wright had lost a very close fight to Taylor and was still an avoided fighter. He fought the younger, busier, faster Calzaghe when Calzaghe had proven himself an elite fighter. He then fought Dawson when pretty much everyone thought Dawson's style was all wrong for him. He fought Pascal twice in his home town despite Pascal having beaten Dawson. And now he's stepping in the ring with Kovalev, this is not the record of a fighter who ducks opponents.
