Bouie Fisher has stated on a few ocassions that when hopkins fights someone twice he ruins them as fighters. (see Bernard Hopkins beyond the glory for example) I cant remeber if it was Joe Lipsy or Robert Allen who he knocked out and he was almost dancing and falling over in a fashion similar to Zab Judah. There is more than one example of fighters on Hopkins record who he has "ruined". My question is how much of this is hype and is there an element of truth and can Jermain Taylors poor showing against Welterweights and Jr.Middleweights and his eventual losses to Kelly Pavlik be attributed to this if only in a small way?

Intestered to know some opinons Thanks

No, Taylor is just a limited fighter and can be exploited by certain styles that trouble him like pressure and slick guys.

Right after the Hopkins fights he upped his intensity vs. Wright, despite being controlled by Wright for much of the fight, his performance drop was against Spinks and Ouma.

Hopkins didn't do enough damage on him anyway, not like he did most guys in his prime.

Hopkins probably landed less meaningful shots on taylor in two fights than pavlick did in two rounds so I just can't see that. Taylor put on a good show against Wright - who was extremely potent at middlweight, and he just couldn't be arsed against ouma and spinks who he thought would be gimmes.

He was fine against Ouma, just blew his load early trying to KO him, like he did against Pavlik, then he had to deal with pressure, which he doesn't like. He drilled Ouma with some really nicely formed combinations and his best shots, I actually gave him credit for some of those shots, really picture perfect, but Ouma didn't budge.

Taylor's a strong puncher, just not a concussive puncher, he can get most guys respect, but can't knock many people out who have decent or better chins.

Better accuracy would help Taylor also in scoring more KD's and knockouts, but he lacks that.

A prime Hopkins would have likely iced off Taylor easily though.

Hopkins didn't ruin Johnson, really surprising there, it was a nasty beatdown in the style of Jeff Lacy.

i wouldn't say hopkins has ruined any body as much as joe has ruined Lacy though, everybody says how lacy was exposed etc, but in all fairness before the calzaghe fight he did look very dangerouse and was knocking people out like an animal. he looks like a turd nowadays, only beating manfredo on points!! It also looks like Kess wants to go into hiding if you believe what 'Pantera' says!

no i agree with you super, Kessler is a terrific fighter and i feel he gain a lot of respect from the fight with joe, he certainly gained mine. I guesse at the end of the day its who you believe really, i'm not sure whether what Miranda is saying is 100% true because Kess may very well still be healing his arm, but i would have thought it was a good idea for both as Miranda's reputation is growing hugely in the SMW division. In my mind though no-one apart from Kess will be ruling that division now Joe has gone

Hopkins ruining fighters is a possibilty. Guys like Robert Allen, Segundo Mercado, Felix Trinidad, and Jeramin Taylor seem to prove that. They seem to be going in a different direction after fighting him. There not the same after. Hell I give Tarver one last chance in his upcoming fight against Woods to see if the same goes for him:think

No way. Come on now, were Allen and Mercado really that good before facing Hopkins? Mercado did well in the first fight but that was in his home country and Hopkins was badly affected by the altitude.

And Taylor was a different fighter after facing Hopkins, but, that is because Hopkins countered him so well over his jab that Taylor became gun shy about throwing it. Taylor has shown no physical effects of a "beatdown".

And Trinidad is still the same fighter he was pre-Hopkins. He is still a limited technical boxer. He is still fighting at too high a weight class. And he fights like once every several years. I see no physical change to Trinidad after the Hopkins fight.

The one guy you can make an argument that he gave a "beatdown" to was William Joppy. Now if anyone got a career altering beatdown it was him.

Also, Hopkins fought Echols twice. I didn't see any everlasting effects on Echols from his Hopkins fights.

Those were press releases written by some one else and I doubt Miranda even saw them. Hell, why would they show them to him? Given his back ground I doubt he could read. Serious on both points.

Anyone who hasn't seen Johnson/Hopkins needs to sit down and watch it.

I wouldn't be suprised if that fight changed the then unbeaten Johnson forever.

  15. He sure didn't ruin Roy jones:lol: Roy beat him like 9-3 in rounds waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 1993, and had a HOF CAREER for the next decade..
