I AM going to argue that DLH, Trinidad, Wright, and Tarver were all greater champions than Kessler and Eubank.

If you want to go weight specific, Hopkins fought and defeated THREE elite fighters: Trinidad, Winky, and Tarver.

All far more impressive than ANYTHING Calzaghe has ever done in the ring.

This is the big temptation, isn't it!

Just because a lot of people talk a lot of nonsense, you want to shut them up! But isn't it wiser to ignore them altogether and keep your eye on the ball - the legacy?

Joe should not seek revenge or to humiliate Bhop. He should forget him altogether. He should leave the past in the past...You don't throw good money after bad money...he should invest in his legacy - fighting the current best!

Plain and simple: If you think that Calzaghe and Kessler had the level of competition of Hopkins (or even Tarver or Toney or Jones etc.), then I think you are out of your mind.

That's all...it's not even close. I am not saying it's an American thing. I am saying that for Calzaghe to reach Jones Jr. or Toney status, he must fight some top fighters, and not just in his backyard. Toney went to Nunn's backyard and knocked him out. Let's see Calzaghe do something like that, then we'll talk...

Please tell me how this could be relevant to whom Joe should fight if he wants to fight the best!

Because Hopkins is an all-time great, and Joe has made a career of beating mediocre fighters in a lackluster division?

Ummm...until you beat the best, you aren't the best. If Calzaghe wants the best at 175, he must fight Hopkins. Hopkins beat Tarver (who beat Jones and Johnson), and therefore Hopkins is currently the best...

I don't know who you can find that you would call a better fighter at 175 than Hopkins...maybe Jones, Dawson, Pavlik haha? I have no clue.

To me, B-Hop is the best at 175 until someone beats him now...right???

    I agree.
However, there are more appealing fights than Hopkins - Calzaghe, but if it's signed then I am all over it, like a kid at christmas :D.
Joe should go after Pavlik now that Bernard happily explains he doesn't wanna take a high-risk low-reward kind of fight.. if Joe goes after Pavlik and signs the contract, wait and see Bernards response  "He ducked me like all the others bla bla bla...." This is mind games, Joe should tell him to put up or shut up.

Why? Who gives a **** about belts? And everyone knows Bhop ducked him! Anyway, how can he prove that he would have beaten him in 2001 if he beats him in 2008?

Only reason why Joe is playing this word-tennis with Bhop might be if he wants to prove that Bhop will duck him again...but what would that prove? What would be the point of Bhop making about the same money he could be making by fighting another has-been NAME and winning just to lose to Joe - whom he doesn't even consider a worthy opponent?

They are either both desperate to sell a big fight and playing along with one another whilst trying to get the upper hand in purse-split negotiations or Joe is bluffing Bhop knowing full well Bhop will not fight him...it's as simple as that!

I could say Bernard is an idiot and doesn't have a ghost of a chance .

    But he's NOT an idiot.

I could say that Joe is sinking low to call out this legend after his legendary days are gone.

    But I won't.

I believe that BOTH these guys are revving up the rhetoric and trash-talking to build up the interest in a fight that both seem to know is a-comin'

Look for the verbal exchanges to escalate. They might even talk about each others mothers before this is through.

Then, at some point in the future, Joe and Warren and Bernard and GBP gonna head to the bank and cash in on a massive ppv for what is really a rather meaningless bout in 2008.

Say it ain't so, Joe !

    Fight Dawson

    ....Or Pavlik, or Taylor or....

Hopkins rhetoric seems way off base though. The guy called out Joe after the Wright fight and now that Kessler's out of the way Hops. is whistling a different tune. The fight has to happen now or Hopkins status of "Legend" will be tarnished. :bart
