The Best of our Era - Roy Jones at his peak - then Mayweather.

If Mayweather continues his impressive run - it would be hard to argue that he's the best against anyone.

I agree I was just explaining the era that they considered him up there! Just because he wasn't #1 doesn't mean it wasn't his era! An era encompasses every boxer fighting at that time...I think RJJ was running it too!

see thats wat i dont understand about that p4p listing. How is RJ the best boxer on the planet through most of the 90's, ahsnt lost a fight the whole time. Winning countless belts in different divisions but yet, shane mosley is #1 and then bhop again etc. and oscar. I dont get that

The win over Tito no matter how much you play it down was huge. Trinidad was a monster and he wiped the floor with him.

Level of competition. The same way many people were putting Pacquiao as #1 for a while while his level of competition was better than Floyd's.

Now, there is no question. When Pacquiao beats an undefeated, prime, two weight champion talks can resume again.

People are quick to forget that Bernard was supposed to be a stepping stone to Tito-Roy. Thats how good Tito was.

He became P4P king when Whitaker was on decline. RJJ had been great in the Middleweight and Super Middleweight divisions, so he was a natural succesor. He had beaten Toney, who was very high at the P4P list.

He probably lost his #1 ranking in 1997 because of the bull**** loss against Montell Griffin. But it was a loss. But then regained his place in 1999.

In 2000, RJJ was beating easy and irrelevant competition at 175, while Shane Mosley was beating De la Hoya. I think that's the reason why Mosley became P4P #1.

Then, after beating Ruiz, RJJ became #1 again. Until he lost against Tarver.

Guru:good havent seen you here in a while man. Whats going on.
I see what you are saying about the level of competition thing. But RJ was winning belts defending them against all top ten contenders, while he made it look effortless, that doesnt negate the fact that they were good fighters. Take clinton woods 4 example, right now he is one of the LHW belt holders, he is considered a good fighter. BUt when RJ made him look like an amateur, people said RJ was fighting anohter "bum"

But Clinton Woods was probably his best defense. And anyone that says Woods is a bum is a jerk and an imbecile.

Many people have problems because RJJ was defending against Lou Del Valle, Otis Grant, Richard Frazier, 50 year old Reggie Johnson, etc.

But besides DM, who at LHW could Jones really have fought and gave him competitio? like honestly. Dude was just that dam good, he probably woulda woop DM handily, and people wouldve said he beat another bum or something. Which DM is not. I think he gets scrutinized b/c he was 2 dam good.
