Hopkins, Oscar, Sugar Ray, and Sugar Shane said it in the post fight press conference.

I agree, it was a very weak division. Apart from DM, no one.

Ali was a heavyweight. Show me any heavyweight with the balence counterpunching ability and the mix of handspeed and being able to put punches together.

A number of fighters have the attributes that Mayweather has: Pernell Whittaker; Wilfred Benetiz; Sugar Ray Leonard; Sugar Ray Robinson and Thomas Hearns are a number of fighters that are equally skilled as Floyd.

No other Heavy has the skill of Ali.

He also has the best ressume out of any Heavyweight ever.

Also Roy Jones Jr and Pernell Whittaker are arguabley better than him.

Hopkins also said Hatton would win he is wrong sometimes just like the rest of us.

De La Hoya really must be pissed at Hopkins for saying this. Does anyone sense insubordination within the DLH camp?:D

P4P Floyd is a much much better technical fighter then Ali ever was. In pure physical talent Ali was probably better but in learned skills and technical proficiency Floyd is alot better.

In pure technical skill there are a numbetr of HWS better then Ali.

Ali had greater physical talent then almost every HWS he did not have greater technical skills.

hop wasn't saying it was "his" era as if he was pfp best he was saying that in his era (approx mid 90's through present) floy was best

edit: i think its close between rjj and pbf

its not really about people accepting it, its more about Floyd earning it. It took some time for Floyd to earn that kind of recognition.

Hmm well let's see. If he beats Cotto. And from the lower weights, maybe the baby bull. Then who else can he fight?
Maybe margo? but he lost to the pretty unkown (at that time) williams.

Listen......Floyd is GREAT! A great fighter and a great champion.
He's fought some truly great fighters.

But Ali fought and beat not just great fighters, but 1st draft HOF'ers and top ATG's in his weight class.
    Liston
    Patterson
    Frazier
    Foreman
    Norton(Not a top ATG but still a HOF'er)

    Ali fought better competition.

its harder to compare past fighters and todays because there are more divisions and belts today...back then to get a belt you had no choice but to fight everyone....if you had the belt....you had no choice but to fight everyone below you because you had the only belt....TODAY....tehre are fighters who stick to or claim they fight a weight a few pounds lighter or heavier......I think if Ali fights in this era...he doesn't fight all of those greats simply because they would probally all have a different belt or fight at a weight they thought was their prefered best wieght.....not to say they wouldnt go after each other they might but then again they might not especially today seeing as everything is political in making matches!

Good to see boxing legends say that, I'm pretty sure other legends feel the same :yep
